Bit of an update on this one. My son has created a few basic websites now for school projects, he is now looking to get a bit more stylish with it and he is talking about Dreamweaver and Rapidweaver. The price of the first is a bit eye watering, is it worth learning the Rapidweaver and then teaching yourself the other? Does anyone have any experience of both, can a 9 year old learn them?

That is certainly one heck of a price difference! Martin you do web design would you say it is a more useful skill for him to learn DW rather than RW. What I don't want him to do is to buy the DW and find it is too far above him so that he has wasted his money. Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate |

aaaaarggghhh nooooooooooo not frontpage!!!! Stay away from frontpage Thank god Dreamweaver has a handy feature to clean pages built in frontpage/word of all the in the code!! Try building a page old school and use notepad, atleast you can guarantee a tight clean code! |

I recommend your son also starts using Firefox too - there are a few nice addons like 'edit css' etc that allow you to change values and see the site change instantly - its a great way to learn quickly as you can do it on any site - even rrsport

yup a great addon! (also worth using firefox to preview your pages, as all browsers are not created equal!!! and something that works in one, may not work in the other .... but tell him he`s lucky as he doesnt have to worry about making the sites compatible with the 640 x 480 screen resolution anymore!!!!!!!!! ) |

Cheers Andrew, my concern is that DW is too complicated and puts him off. He has used a site called Dave's Site to start and Father Christmas bought him HTML for dummies which covers off HTML, XHTML and CSS (sounds like I know what I'm talking about!)

DW has quite a steep learning curve but once learnt it's the most powerful web design tool available and well worth the investment. While it's what I use for page design I tend to favour other editors for writing code. But P Jr will need to walk before he can run
