If the government won't help Mr Tata, he should pick up his belongings and relocate everything to India. In my opinion this is the only way for survival of JLR. Currently

If those of you that own businesses on here would be willing to pay 15% to a third party to guarantee the loan for you and allow the bank manager to become your Boss, go and have a word with Gordon... I'm sure he'll be happy to help Whistle

Tata are not short of cash or credit lines IMO, but merely trying to get their fair share of EU support (no sense in giving your competitors a leg-up at the moment is there?)

However, I fear there is a risk that manufacturing may be moved away from the UK if the lunatics in Downing Street continue to try and rip off successful British businesses like this. Rolling Eyes

Aha. A very interesting comment Mr TikoV.

It's a very sad thing, but it is generally accepted that if you manufacture something en masse nowadays, you need to get it made in the Far East or somewhere like that.

Maybe we are seeing that it will only be possible to build cars that way in the future too? I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

I think that might have something to do with paying the workforce 20p an hour or child labour at worst Whistle

I did say it was very sad, but alas that's the way things are going. I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

being of a cynical nature, the thought occurs to me that TATA have lots of cash and credit lines and have been awaiting an opportunity to relocate industry out of europe into the far east for some time already (remember TVR anyone?) And now this climate is just the excuse they need to do it.
there is a point to retaining a toe hold in europe while the subsidies keep flowing, customers are buying here (import duty issue with that) and costs are tolerable, but as soon as that balance changes (and it is now as european market is down and govt are fannying around with support again) so it becomes even more desirable for them to move out of uk now I suspect?

so the only game they've got to play now is the blame game - and gordon the moron is quite happily obliging by being his usual obtuse self. when they do move off-shore, this way they can blame gordon and not obviously Censored -off their european/uk customer base - kind of having their cake and eating it don't you think? and with the immense thickos we have running the country (lord fondlebottom and gordon the moron in particular) they're giving tata all the elbow room they need to do it.
As mercuryl says - industry migration out of western europe is generally inevitable, so it was always going to happen sooner or later with JLR - but hopefully things will continue successfully there. but i think it's pretty certain we can forget thinking about it as a british company in short order. Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

Yeah but at least he wont be selling the gold back to us like the Tories did with share issues for the privatised industries that the we all owned!

The country needs a proper alternative...that and some proper regulation in banking and industry Shocked
