Will Wonky, you're being selective with your answer to my point.

The 3.0 engine is a good advance, but the engine, no matter what way you measure it, will still be inferior to German rivals. Why is that? Why can't Land Rover produce a competitive diesel engine.

Don't get me wrong, I still bought a MY09 RRS instead of an ML320, X5 or X6. But the fact remains. Their 3.0 litre diesel engines are better. I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

I don't disagree re the engine, but I think {generally} people get too hooked up on the engine side of things as the be all and end all. IMO, people should look at the overall package as opposed to just - what's it's 0-60.

At the end of the day the LR family are fully paid up SUV members that happen to offer great on-road dynamics, aswell as a plethera of other class leading abilities to boot.............

.........whereas the made up "special needs" category of SAV for the likes of the BMW's, Merc etc is totally reliant on bigger and faster engines for their market share......let's face it, they are not bought for their looks Whistle Whistle

BTW - good selection on the car, otherwise these exchanges could have gone on a lot longer and a lot deeper Wink L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

James, any news on prices... also, can you find out if you can retro-fit the interior to pre-2010?

The new 3.0 Tdv6 has more power and torque than the engine in the X5 xDrive30d. LR has 245BHP/ 600Nm, the BMW has 235BHP/520Nm.

The RRS weighs a lot, which is what hampers its acceleration - but then, none of its rivals have such a broad range of abilities, which are important to some of us, or we'd be stuck with Landcruisers.

this just gets better and better... hopefully the quote below implies touch screen iPod controls!!!!

Infotainment systems and displays

A new hard-drive navigation system provides faster route calculation and
improved system reliability.

The navigation system adopts an easy-to-use navigation structure which now
also features ‘towards guidance’. This supplements the junction map and
icon-based information with details of the actual road signage viewed by the
driver along the route.

The new Portable Audio Interface allows connectivity to an array of personal
audio storage devices, USB sticks and MP3 players, enabling the various
devices’ functions to be accessed and controlled via the facia-mounted touchscreen
system. One of the connectivity ports is a dedicated Apple i-PodTM
point made exclusively by Land Rover, for continued functionality in extreme
driving conditions, by helping to prevent the device coming loose from the
socket.

A new 5-inch TFT driver information LCD screen is also introduced with the
2010 Range Rover Sport. Sitting within the instrument cluster, the message
centre display ensures key information is communicated in a clean, simple
and user-friendly manner.

keyless entry... near 360-degree view on touch screen!!!!! I think i need some tissues... Embarassed

Improving safety and security

Outside the vehicle, convenient and relevant new systems enhance safety
and security.

The 2010 Range Rover Sport has a sophisticated new remote key which
offers both keyless entry and passive start, along with the ability to raise and
lower suspension.

A new surround camera system supports easier parking and towing. It
features five digital cameras which relay a near 360-degree view to the touchscreen
display. The cameras function immediately the vehicle is started, and
can be used at speeds up to 11mph, with options for selecting and zooming in
to assist with close quarter parking and with towing.

The patented reverse tow assist and tow hitch assist functions (selected from
the touch screen menu) help perform accurate towing manoeuvres. The wide
fields of vision on the side cameras give a clear view of the reversing trailer
and the images are electronically manipulated to provide an undistorted view.
Guide lines overlaid on the rear camera image illustrate both the vehicle and
trailer’s trajectory and these move in line with steering inputs, making it easier
for the driver to predict where the trailer will move to, before performing the
reversing manoeuvre.

Specific characteristics such as type of trailer, number of axles and width
guides can be fed into the system to enhance the system outputs.
The Range Rover Sport’s new LED front headlights incorporate High Beam
Assist technology. This can automatically switch on high beam headlights
where external light levels are below the system’s threshold. Importantly, the
system is also designed to detect preceding and approaching traffic, and in a
split second will automatically switch back to low beam to avoid dazzling
others.

I would imagine so, the very similar system already found on Jaguars allows full control of an iPod via touchscreen.

In what way are they 'Better'?

If you mean in terms of technology and refinement then I massively disagree with you.

The LR diesels are much more refined than either BMW or Merc.

We test drove all of your named rivals before buying ours and even though they were considerably quicker than the RRS, the RRS was head and shoulders above the other two in the final pecking order.

LR don't seem to be concerned with being at the head of the power race, as WW rightly points out LR vehicles have much, much more to them than a mere 0-60 sprint.

If I were to buy another diesel then I wouldn't hesitate to buy a TDV8 or a new TDV6.

As it is, it's SUPERCHARGED ALL THE WAY FOR ME, BABY!!!!! Twisted Evil

Sorry.. but the center concole layout with the 6 circles is Censored ... terrible!! Just doesn`t work for me.
Nice to have the clock but that should have been the only circle..

Great steering wheel!! Thumbs Up and fairly nice update to the dashboard (but could have been far more luxurious/cutting edge)...
