Common suspension fault. and general impressions....question

Hi folks,

Thats almost a week in the RRS and emotions are bit mixed I must admit. Good points are it looks fantastic, drives good and very ergonomically styled. Like I said in a previous post, the consumption isn't too bad and even after just urban travelling it has sustained a healthy 25mpg. Now, I know that fuel consumption shouldn't be a huge issue but nevertheless its good to know that I'm not getting drained by frequent visits to the pumps.

The HK system isn't bad at all and when compared to other marques equipment it holds it own.

Nothing in mentioning of bad points, very underpowered in my opinion but after a simple remap that should be sorted. The finishing. It is extremely plastic and you get the odd annoying creeking sound here and there but as long things don't start falling off I'll be happy.

One thing I've noted is this common knocking sound coming from the smallest going over of bumps. It's not terrible but very apparent and does slightly take the edge of the driving pleasure. Given the fact I'm sitting on 22's and with very low profile tyres any bump is attenuated, but surely the sound is not directly influenced by that??

I've read the posts on here, so no shouting please. Just wanted to know what I should do and what approach I should take with the dealer in this situation. Are they in more acceptance of the fault?

Regards

You need to get the new ball joints and also have the bushes replaced Thumbs Up

Should be done for free under warranty.

Whoever gave you the idea that the common knocking sound is because of your 22's?

Shouldn't be a problem - it's a known issue, but take a copy of the relevant TSB if they make a fuss.

Technicai Service Bulletin - LR release instructions to dealers on how to repair faults etc. Some members here have access to the on-line reference library - helps when dealing with dealers who claim faults are normal.

Edit: this is probably the relevant one: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/displayim...amp;pos=37

It's not an issue for the Dealers anymore since LR have provided a solution......New design ball joints and new design bushes. So as long as they fit the latest versions it should be quiet. A warranty job.

Had mine done all round in last few weeks and so far Bow down Bow down Bow down it's holding up to the rigours of on tarmac country driving.

If however you have the apparently loud sounding DR knock (I've not got that) then this can not be repaired. But hopefully it will be designed out with the next version of the DR. TDV6 - gone

TikoV,

I had the same thing - got my TDV8 about 3 months ago and had suspension knocking (not DR knocking) - my local dealer (th white) were great about it - knew exactly the problem and what to do - and it's been quiet ever since. I've done about 1000 miles since that repair and no knocking has come back yet. I think most dealers must know about this problem now as they've all (if they have any customers!) been doing this repair pretty regularly for a few years already. Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

Would think your warranty will be invalid if you take it in on 22inch rims as these are not recomended by Landrover

This is where I'm worried.......then again, I bought the vehicle as is and never knew that these wheels weren't recommended.

If it becomes an issue, I have a set I can borrow if needs must.

unless you have experience of dealers refusing to do work on your car because of 22s then i wouldnt advise people to remove them before going to the dealers especially for the common knocking noise i have them on mine its been in to get the new bushes an ball joints done and a few other things and they have never mentioned them has any 1 ever actually been refused warranty work because of having 22s on

Some dealers don't worry, others do... certainly dealers have been known to refuse warranty claims on larger than recommended alloys.
