Terrible, just terrible. I live near a school that had a slaughter as well (Columbine). To this day, our state still hurts about it. It was almost 10 years ago...

All rifles and shotguns have to be locked in certified safes (Pistols arent generally available to any but military and Police in the UK) to which only the licence holder has a key. any access by anyone else is a criminal offence by both the licence holder and the person obtaining access. Firearms offences are typically 'absolute' which means there is no defence/mitigation and mandatory minimum sentences are of the order of 5-10 years. Sadly having some of the strictest firearms laws in the world doesnt prevent British youngsters shooting each other with illegal weapons on a weekly basis in battles over 'turf', drugs and 'respect' ![]() you are subject to inspection at any time the Police feel like it and you lose your licence and guns as soon as there is a suspicion that you might be a threat to public safety. In this circumstance you are guilty till proven innocent. Any accusation of abberrent or threating behaviour and they are all quite correctly taken away ![]() Unfortunately criminals by definition arent licensed and arent subject to any regulation etc and do as they will. |

I have to agree wholeheartedly, they bear a portion of the responsibility for the whole tradgedy Unfortunately the main perpetrator is beyond punishment by society ![]() This will be cold comfort to those suffering loss of family or loved ones. |

Playing Devil's advocate if the kid had picked up a kitchen knife from home and gone and stabbed people would his parents have been to blame?

The reason guns have to be kept locked up is to try to prevent exactly this kind of thing happening.
