Stick Up for Land Rover!

I was watching Five news last night and it got my blood boiling.

All those Billions of £ they've given to the banks, no one bats an eye lid.

Then, they word the news piece like this "The govt is to give Landrover £27m of TAXPAYERS MONEY to help them develop their greenest car yet"

This is bound to be followed up by the anti 4x4 green tree hugging movement deploring the move and protesting.

Why don't people see the GOOD Land Rover has done for the entire world by being the most widely available 4x4 vehicle since 1948, enabling struggling and third world countries to receive Aid, food, water, humanitarian projects, medical supplies etc. Land Rover is solely responsible for helping these countries to be assisted by first world countries over the decades, and still is.

All this done by a BRITISH Company based in the West Midlands.

This is nothing to do with the recession, it is just a business grant like large and small companies get everyday.
And it is to help keep jobs at Hailwood on Merseyside, £27 million is just a drop in the bucket for developing a new car these days. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

I heard the MD of land rover yesterday say they were investing 800 million in R&D for new vehicles - so 27m is not significant in that at all. I guess the government thought people would thank them for doing it and improve their ratings (no hope!) but I agree with RRUK - it's a drop in the ocean and the tree huggers are going to whinge any second now. Not many car manufacturers left in this country, and with the TATA owners being labour party buddys (so I hear), relocation of LR manufacturing to india can't be far off can it? Excuse my cynicism, but if the government don't bail them out, and TATA owners want to save money as their other businesses are suffering more severely, whats likely to happen next?

Still, the general election isn't far off - and I'm really going to enjoy voting next time Smile Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

I don't think there is that much friendship between Gordy Broon and his Goons and Ratan Tata at the moment - GB and Mandy have previously knocked Tata back when they have asked for handouts - NOW had Phoney Tony and the Happy Smiley Clappies still been in No10 then Tata would have got everything they wanted so it furthered W'er Tony's retirement account - he would probably have been made at least a 1 hour a week in exchange for £100,000 non-exec on the board of Tata as thanks......................
What too many folks don't realise is just how many jobs are at stake if any of our carmakers shut's up shop in the UK and goes overseas - it isn't just the factories that will suffer but all the component makers, engine makers, upholstery builders, design offices and things like the "Own Brand" finance and insurance that will loose employees too.
Just look at what has happened in the USA in the last month - a couple of MILLION car workers dumped onto the unemployment register - mind you who wants to own most of the crap cars that their homegrown car industry makes, the management just don't seem to understand why Americans want to buy BMW's, Jaguars, mercs, Audis, Land Rovers and all the Japanese brands, in fact anything that isn't American!. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I say.............

Stick up for everything English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish, yes I chose NOT to use the word "British", purely becuase it can be used by anybody these days, somehow it has lost the prestige and shine it once had and as proven a few days ago, can be used to hide behind in the "name" of protest and convenience.

Those guys are surely going to wish they had not been splashed all across the TV and newspapers and are probably now very much watching their backs........if not, they should be. A shameful act. Quite frankly, if you don't like it, F Censored k off and live somewhere else - we don't want you anyway. yep, fair enough - but offshoring can't be far off anyway can it? Agree with your point about US car industry, the impact is gruesome (or it's going to be in short order). Unlike the US though, most of our car industry is gone here already and we don't have as much left to lose. Even then, if we can't hang on to Land Rover and make it work it's a pretty sad comment on the state of our industry and government.

Anyway, I'm still really going to enjoy voting next time around, just a pity I only get to do it once Smile Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black
