This is nothing to do with the recession, it is just a business grant like large and small companies get everyday.

I heard the MD of land rover yesterday say they were investing 800 million in R&D for new vehicles - so 27m is not significant in that at all. I guess the government thought people would thank them for doing it and improve their ratings (no hope!) but I agree with RRUK - it's a drop in the ocean and the tree huggers are going to whinge any second now. Not many car manufacturers left in this country, and with the TATA owners being labour party buddys (so I hear), relocation of LR manufacturing to india can't be far off can it? Excuse my cynicism, but if the government don't bail them out, and TATA owners want to save money as their other businesses are suffering more severely, whats likely to happen next?

I don't think there is that much friendship between Gordy Broon and his Goons and Ratan Tata at the moment - GB and Mandy have previously knocked Tata back when they have asked for handouts - NOW had Phoney Tony and the Happy Smiley Clappies still been in No10 then Tata would have got everything they wanted so it furthered W'er Tony's retirement account - he would probably have been made at least a 1 hour a week in exchange for £100,000 non-exec on the board of Tata as thanks......................

yep, fair enough - but offshoring can't be far off anyway can it? Agree with your point about US car industry, the impact is gruesome (or it's going to be in short order). Unlike the US though, most of our car industry is gone here already and we don't have as much left to lose. Even then, if we can't hang on to Land Rover and make it work it's a pretty sad comment on the state of our industry and government.
