Sat Nav that can't make it's mind up
Having just returned from having the RRS serviced and a few warranty items fixed, we still have an issue with the Satnav screen. The screen flashes light/dark when its dusk or on a dim day. The L/Rover garage originally informed my wife on our previous visit that it due to the lights being on auto? Having put up with the problem a little longer, ive asked them to review the Satnav again as it happens when the lights are on side/dipped or auto. This time i've been told its because the light sensor (located in the front windscreen?) is getting confused which is due to the tinted windows in the rear of the car. Not happy with the answers i was given i questioned the engineer, who informed me there was a note on the L/Rover website - not that i can find it. Logically, i feel it has to be linked to a dodgy light sensor?? - Has anyone else experienced this and if so what was the cause? Ta

FWIW, the light sensor for the touchscreen is inside the instrument cluster, next to the flashing alarm LED. So, it all depends on how much ambient light hits that sensor inside the cluster, day or night. I have the factory tinted windows on the rear and don't have any problems - although at dusk the monitor can indeed seem a bit "confused" as to which brightness level to go sometimes (as the sensor reacts to the changing light level on the cluster while I drive), but it only lasts a while and it doesn't bother me. It could be a bad or partially dislocated sensor on yours. Try covering the sensor with your finger when it's bright outside. After a second or two the display should go dim - and stay dim. If the display flickers between high and low light or doesn't dim at all, you have a problem.
BTW, if you turn on the driver's side map light (at least here on LH drive cars, not sure if it's the same effect on RH drives), the monitor goes full bright, whether day or night... I think that light must catch the sensor just at the right angle.

Is there a way to force the satnav to think its daytime........its just mine never alters from the normal daytime setting and is a little bright at night.
