The dealers don't have to run quite as many demonstrators so there are less coming to market. Perrys For New & Used Range Rover Sports

Aha

And all of a sudden my struggle to find a TDV8 to demo in Jan suddenly makes sense

Thanks for your honesty

Dealers will still have them on as demonstrators but in the past they may have had more than one of a particular model.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Can anybody define what is "a good quality" used car.

i.e When speccing my next car what should I be looking at to make sure it ends up as a "quality" used car that you will pay top price for?
Bear in mind that I like to use my Land Rovers for what they are designed to do whenever possible and if conditions are sensible - there is no way I would take my TDv8 where I take my Defender.
Too often I hear dealers saying that they are not interested in Land Rovers that have actually been further off road than the verge in the local supermarket car park. One even told me recently that because the tyres on my RRS had mud staining on them he had to devalue it by £3000 "because it had been offroaded". The car has never been offroad in it's life, I had to park it partly on my lawn every night until last week.

2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

My old RRS was PX'd with a dealer - I think I hoodwinked him as I don't think he knew it had been offroad or been in an accident! Wink 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

you were lucky to get away with that. Every main dealer I have done a deal with has made me sign a declaration that no accident damage had been sustained to my PX vehicle.

I think Tim has sort of answered his own question. A good quality used car is one that the dealer needs to do little to (or hopefully nothing at all to) to get it to Approved Used Car standards. So if the wheels are tarnished then they would need to be refurbished (not replaced!) and if there was a scratch then it would need to be polished or painted. Not sure why they suggested £3000 Question

Obviously they are built to be used off road, but it all depends on how harshly treated it had been. VA's Sport was obviously cleaned very well and a number of items were replaced, and to be honest you'd never have known that he'd tried to kill it several times! Rolling Eyes I've seen cars used in central London that are in far far worse condition that vehicles used heavily off road.

The main rule of thumb is, that you will get more for the vehicle the closer it's condition is to the day it left the showroom. Thumbs Up On average, we spend the equivalent of nearly £1000 per used vehicle on preparation before the vehicle reaches the forecourt, therefore the less that needs doing makes the car worth more.

VA - spounge ??

A verb used by smelly Bohemian runaway kids who panhandle; a combination of the words "sponge" and "scrounge"

Ronnie

Yes could be interested! Could you email the full details (not PM) and I'll have a look at the financials. Are you sure you're ok getting it all the way to London as we're not the Belfast branch! Also let me know what sort of spec/price TDV8 you're after and I'll keep a look out.

James Thumbs Up

James, it wasn't my wheels the dealer commented on it was the TYRES so even less cost to replace. Also I think I caught them on a bad day! Best offer I have had for the Tdv8 was from the Aston Martin dealers - £35k (and the car was covered in road salt from a 50 miles motorway drive from home to Edinburgh and still has the repaired chip in the front screen) against one similar to this.
