I never said you did want a stamped driveway or tarmaced one

I said that some of the D3 members where in the driveway game from reading a thread on "stamped driveways", I am sure they do quite a few different options too when it comes to driveways. Rolling Eyes

Also, just because somebody drives a D3 (or I presume any expensive car) when they come to do quotes they must be over charging, I am sure in some cases it does equate to this, but in others could it mean they are running a successful company that can reward them with benefits of a luxury car.

Hope the other company turn up anyway, in a clapped out dingle van so you'll believe the price is right

I agree with that thought

You can view it as someone getting by turning up in an mondeo & not knowing if they'll be around to do the job or someone that is running a successful business with a 'luxury' car - i know people that do not buy the cars they want or can afford because of the impresssion to the customers...

I used to work in defence where we would have agents in a runaround for the week and meetings with government and then the 'luxury' car for the evenings and weekends ... Laughing

Question is what would you think if they turned up in a RRS Question

Reminds me of a story I heard about a local Estate Agent. He had branched out on his own having worked with a group for years. But couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t getting the sale of very many houses that he was called to look at.

A mate of his said that it was because of the car he was driving, an ’05 VW Golf !! However he disregarded this advice for a while, not wanting to believe it to be true. But still was not getting the work, despite presenting himself very well. So he decided to take a gamble on his friend’s advice & invested in an ’08 BMW 3 Series.

Yep you guessed it………………..his business flourished Thumbs Up

I have a ready mixed concrete company ,,, qualcon in Shefield , and drive a RRS , I drive it because the business is well run and we work hard, I deal with lots of driveway people daily , and there is a vast quality difference between many of them . Be careful that they buy the best quality materials , 08 HSE,5%TINTS, Factory tow bar, brum ,brum

the driveway business to me is one of those type of things where your expecting to be ripped off by the company due to all the rouge trader type programs out on TV saying they they put down 2" instead of 5" of base hardcore and so on.

When my dad looked at his driveway last year they quoted £7k and when he thought about it, they was ringing up and saying they'll do it for £5k to get the business, I know we all like a discount but to knock £2k off just for work made him think they be cutting corners.

He too had 4 or 5 wasted mornings waiting for people to come

Ihave loads of driveway and concrete layers as customers , and they can afford to knock off 2k without cutting corners ,, a typical job like the one pictured , 3 men and a mini digge for a day , cost £500,,, hardcore compacted 10 tons = £200 4m3 of concrete £360 , a day to lay that say £300 wages . 200 for bits like edging and drains for garage edge. cost for concreter £1600 tops ,,, no one would lay it for less than 3k . 08 HSE,5%TINTS, Factory tow bar, brum ,brum

Job done for £2k, involved removal of 2t of old hardcore/cement mix, turfs and soil. Recycled as much slabbing as possible. 3 guys 4 days, in the snow and frost, no minidigger

Before

After

Still have a little tidying up to do to the lawn and the grass on the left.

Not quite enough width for the RRS and Def to park side by side, but it's a big improvment 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The original plan had been to do the retaining wall with bricks to match the house brickwork (dark brown) but the boss man is a stone dyker by trade and managed to find (no quetsions asked from my side Whistle ) a load of old unpolished granite kerbs and steps so they recycled them into a wall, looks better then brick I reckon 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I had asked them to include a recessed drain with a filter, the whole length of the drive so I could wash the 90 and all the off road crap would be caught in it. The job would have entailed digging a trench right across my front garden to get to the street drain = very expensive, also would have involved having a custom made drain trap so I don't block the street drains.
Next job is to get rid of the narrow strip of grass along the fence as it's too narrow for a mower = strimmer or hand cutting 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Looking good Tim Thumbs Up

But those granite kerb stones look as if they could do some serious damage to your nice shiny 20" alloys. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE.
