New to the Forum - Looking at a used TDV6

Hi All- New here so get out the kid gloves! Very Happy

Having had the L200 driven through a flood the other night I feel I am in real need of a new vehicle - certainly as I presume it will be written off on Monday Sad

Still - not all bad news! Have looked at the RRS TDV6 and although I am not looking at new - thought you may all be ble to help?

Went to a local independent and test drove an 06 HSE with 40k on the clock, could not beleive the comfort, refinement and ease of driving - they are after about £25k for it which I think is fairly reasonable? Must say their was a big grin on the face after the test drive!

The few problems that I saw was firstly that the dial for selecting off road settings was stuck in the down position - is this an easy fix? Obviously will get it done before purchase (but don't want to buy a vehicle that will end up with future probs with this, and of course meant I couldn't check the settings all worked etc. Few bonnet chips - but expect that of a vehicle of this age.

Also what else should I look for? Are their ways to test the suspension heights etc etc?

Thanks in advance.
Alex

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I was looking at 55 plates and 06's but found if I just pushed the budget a little more I could get someting a lot newer, I bought a 2008 (57) TDV6 a few weeks back with 11,500 miles on it for £28,500 the 2 years of warranty remaining was worth the extra, it is also unmarked! [SOLD!]2008 TDV6 HSE - Stornoway with Ebony leather, 20" Overfinch Supersport Titanium

That's interesting to know - thanks for that.

Was it main dealer? I am so used to buying new, but at the "lower" end of the 4x4 market. However as I don't have GAP insurance (on the L200, def for the next one!) I am facing a bit of a shortfall, hence the fists tightening in the pockets!!!

You can do better on price - there's a Supercharged for sale at the moment on site for under £20k.

If the terraine selection button is stuck it might be that you have to push it down for it to rise! Just checking! This can be sorted out on warranty as the car you're looking at is under 3 years old. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yes did try pressing down (soft and hard Rolling Eyes ) and it stayed down.

Have looked at the SC - But will I end up killing myself on fuel costs.... ?

I don't do the mileage I used to and live rurally so fuel stops are a little irregular!

See now you have pushed me towards SC - HELP

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

Hello Alex, welcome to the forum.

The Terrain Response Dial on the centre console is designed to push down flush. Did you try pressing on the dial to see if it simply popped back up?

If you are unsure about this vehicle why don't you try contacting one of our site sponsors, they will do their best to source a good used vehicle at competitive rates. Click on the sponsors link at the top of the page and look for Charles Hurst Park Royal Land Rover or Perrys of Luton. If you need help with vehicle finance contact Kam at MHC Finance, he can also help find the vehicle of your dreams if required. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Thanks for the welcome all

Kam has helped out with the sourcing etc of several of my vehicles and the email went out to him last night. Trouble is I'm an impatient git!

Will keep my eyes peeled - and if you have any further info - much appreciated.

See if you can get it on a ramp and get underneath - offroading isn't common but there are some offroaded examples on the market at the moment......................... Whistle Whistle

Check all the electronic things like heated seats, electric windows, climate control are all working OK
If you are "sold" on buying the car, try to get the seller to get it into a Land Rover dealer for a full service and update of all the TSB's. Also before parting with money get the VIN from the bottom left corner of the screen and ask the local dealer to look it up in the LR network and get the service/ repair history if it has been kept serviced by LR Dealers
Also what colour is it - don't be persuaded that you should pay extra for some colours unless it is Vesuvius! And some colours were very unpopular and therefore may be worth less (Maya Gold and Atacama Sand come to mind)

VA - if it's a Jan/ Feb 2006 then the warranty will be expired! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Apparently it still has warranty remaining.

OK then - so scouting the SC version now - what is the difference between the 4.2 and 4.4? I know, I know I am asking for trouble with that one!!

Thanks for all the responses so far - really helpful.

Most noticable difference is the performance............................... The 4.4 has the love of fuel that the 4.2S/C has but not the go!

One thing also to check with any used LR apart from a Freelander is to put the gearbox into neutral and try to select LOW range..................... if Low doesn't engage easily, smoothly and quietly then walk way as it is very expensive to repair although it is a sign that the car has never been offroaded! Even if you never ever think you will take a Land Rover offroad you should still engage the low box every couple of months to avoid the transfer box seizing up and expensive repairs to the tranny 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The SC is a good deal imho. 14mpg compared to 24mpg but over £4k so you would have to do a huge amount of miles to make the TDV6 more economical. Feel the power of a Super Charged! It's great! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Agree, as much as I still love our TDV6 HSE I really do wish we had gone for the 4.2 S/C.

Still, can rectify that when The Good Lady ST releases the purse strings to upgrade to the 5L S/C Twisted Evil
