Using the EPB in traffic will do no damage unless you have to stop for a long time (5minutes+ at a guess) when you could cause the gearbox oil to get a bit hot and possibly damage the valves inside. So just keep driving as you have been until yopu get into a traffic jam, when you would also be better from a pollution point of view just to switch off the engine anyway!
I have the problem that when I am being driven in my RRS (yes I get chauffeured in it occassionally - it s one of the privileges of being a captain in the shipping industry that I get a driver to uplift me from the airport when I come home!) the driver puts the car into P if he stops at traffic lights for any length of time................ which must scare the sh*t out of anybody behind the car when he then selects D again and as the selector goes through R the reversing lights come on Rolling with laughter . 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I use it only when the car is parked somewhere steep... Quite useless, since even with just the lever on P the car will stay in its place, but it looks safer to me, I don't know... Mr. Green

I have just experienced a major problem with my handbrake,it just locked on when Iwas driving along normally, local dealer said this was due to lack of adjustment, interestingly the first question they asked was if I drove off with the brake on.They told me that this should never be done as it strains the shoes and takes them out of alignment, when I pointed out that the handbook says you can do this they replied that they were hoping to get this changed in the handbook.
My problem was solved at a cost of £500 and now the amber light is still coming on.Moral don't use the handbrake!!!

For a bit of fun.......try pulling it up at 30mph, works a treat, but make sure you've got your seat belt on.

When the A8 got the EHB a driving instructor once showed me how well this works: When I was driving at 70 mph he pulled the thing. The car stopped so fast (and surprisingly safe since the ABS works, too) I had a big red stripe from the seat belt on my chest. Shocked
Thank god they invented the belt-load limiter before the EHB, otherwise this test could brake some rips! Bow down Laughing RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration Wink

Thanks Josh, you may be correct but I am only passing on what they said!! for information they replaced discs&pads, drums and shoes and sensors, not bad for a vehicle with only 23500 mls on it.

Over on rr.net, Blackbox Solutions posted the details of a CCF (car config file) from a Sport. One of the options listed in the file is "EPB City Mode: Disabled"... We don't know what that is or what it does when enabled, but we have guessed it may be some sort of automatic parking brake engaging after you have stopped at intersections for a set amount of time?

Since that parking brake mechanism seems to be quite trouble prone on the RRS (like Bobby said there are a number of TSBs out for it), I only use it when absolutely necessary. So far, so good. Very Happy

There appears to have been some sort of redesign of the EPB as I haven't had any jamming on, screaching and howling with the TDv8 like I had with the TDv6.......................... mind you the TDv8 hasn't been offroaded, whereas my Tdv6 was shown a bit of mud in it's wheelarches on a few occassions. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Is it perfectly safe to exit and leave the car parked, even on a slope, just held by the gearbox in 'P'??

I'm on my second RRS and it's the 2nd that has automatically applied the EPB after I have left the car for few minutes so I wouldn't worry about 2nd. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Josh, I'm not sure of this, but you could just be right Mr. Green
....................... certainly on the 2002 -2007 FFRR and Defenders the parking brake is basically a propshaft clamp. My undertanding is that the system on the RRS and D3 and post 2007 FFRR the only difference to that is that there is a small auto tensioning electric winch that pulls on the brake wire rather than you having to stress arm muscle pulling on one of those old fashioned lever things that can be found sprouting out of the floor of the Freelander2 and Defender 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Umberto...you're a genius with this stuff, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how that picture suggests that there is an electronic connection to engage the front disc brakes as well when the car is rolling faster than 6 mph...
