Dealing with local small businesses.

Don't you just love them - I spent a lot of yesterday phoning around local landscaping and drive building companies, several of whom have put fliers through my letter box. I had an appointment for 10am with one company this morning and they still haven't appeared. I have 2 more companies coming around this afternoon and it will be interesting to see what will happen if they all turn up together at 4:30/5pm to look at my garden in the dark!
It's very inconvenient having to wait in all morning for somebody who may not even turn up when I have other things to do. All the companies took my mobile and landline phone numbers, you would think they would have the decency to phone and say they might be a bit late & would I mind? I'm not going to go chasing them. Maybe they have too much work already (lucky people!) and couldn't care less, but they should have said so on the phone.

I know many of you on here own small businesses but as a potential customer it is infuriating when you have an appointment and nobody turns up and no phone call to apologise or delay the meeting to another time. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I know the feeling, here in Italy its always the case, try building a house!

I think many people forget who is the customer and that being on time and keeping to your word make all the difference especially on first impressions

I have found a builder who is to his word and is always on time for everything and for that reason he has people queuing for him to do the work. RRS TDV8 HSE 2007- JAVA Black/Black interior,

Kam I know how good MHC are m8, and there are many many excellent small businesses out there, but there are even more bad ones than good unfortunately. BTW I've just had a call from company 3 that I contacted who asks would I mind if they come earlier than their original appointment as it will still be daylight, they were supposed to be here at 4pm, I said sure but be aware that I have somebody else coming at 3pm and I hope your paths (excuse the pun) don't cross - they will be here in 20 minutes now - obviously keen to do business and see the site in daylight even though it is peeing down with rain here! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It is already - that's why I want some landscaping done and the drive widened!

Here it is - not exactly an offroad playground but I can honestly say my RRS and Def go offroading every night!
It's starting to p Censored s off the neighbours because mud goes onto the courtyard whenever it rains

Also the postman has to drag his mailsack down the side of the RRS to get down my front path when he delivers the mail to my front door Big Cry Big Cry as the path isn't wide enough for the RRS and a pedestrian and the RRS won't fit in the garage 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It's not just small business........look at the likes of British Gas. They NEVER turn up on time....

We're having a stone fireplace put in so I called 2 local companies. The first turned up an hour late stayed for 20 minutes and said they'd send a quote....never heard from them again. The second was bang on time, spent as much time as we needed to make an informed choice about design, height etc then went away and drew up proper professional plans with fixed costs and lots of possible options also costed.

It makes a wonderful change to deal with a professional local company who have todate been just as good after they've got the business as they were before!

I don't want a "stamped" concrete drive or a tarred one thank you - I want similar or better and wider than I already have and that can withstand the weight of 2 Land Rovers parked on it, which with all due respect the present one has done for the last 15 years with only slight sinkage of the slabs (coz it was laid properly on decent hardcore that was rolled rock hard before the slabs were laid in the first place). If they arrive in a D3 I'll know they must be charging too much straight off if they can afford to run one of them instead of a Ford Transit or an old Land Rover Defender!

BTW Company 3 arrived when they said (2 hours early but on a rescheduled visit!) Pleasant guy in a Defender 90 2.4td HT (full marks for that, he could be in the running just for that alone!) Brought a heap of stone, granite sets and slab samples with him and because I emailed him the same photos as above he only needed to do a bit of measuring and he's gone away to draw something up and will be back with a plan & quote on Thursday afternoon. C2 hasn't shown either even though they had an appointment for 3pm.............................. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
