Tuned TDV6 or TDV8?

Hello All,

Thinking about chopping in my Tuned D3 TDV6 for an RRS, but can't decide whether to get the ubiquitous TDV6 and tune it or pop for the TDV8?

It is now going to be a weekend/off-road/drives abroad car as opposed to a daily commuter for the school (replaced the school runner with a highly entertaining and very cheap suzuki splash!) but is the TDV8 that much of an improvement over the TDV6 in a tuned state?

Cheers

Yep it sure is Thumbs Up

Go TDV8. If you go TDV6 and ever drive a TDV8 after you've bought a TDV6 you will kick yourself forever Exclamation

I've had a tuned TDV6 and now have an untuned TDV8. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

Having driven both the TDV8 tuned and the TDV6 tuned I can say that a standard TDV6 is a joke and MUST be tuned but a standard tdv8 is good but a tuned one the mutz nutz Wink

if you are fed up of hearing your wife and/or your kids go for the TDV8, you'll have the impression to be seatted next to the engine...
Else for a family car gor for the TDV6 and if you want to have fun besides that go buy a cheap nervous car (lotus elise, porsche cayman, audi tt ....)

bests

Why not wait for the 3.0 TDv6 in the D3 (or RRS). These engines should be along pretty soon. The engine was "launched" earlier this month but I am not sure when it gets supplied in the D3 or RRS. Apparently that engine will be capable of playing much better "tunes" than the 2.7. Thumbs Up RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

When I say "launched" - the 3.0 TDv6 has completed its testing and is now being manufactured by Ford. However I believe the end users (Land Rover & Jag) are delaying ordering them for their production lines as they still have such a lot of 2.7 TDv6's in stock. It would be suicidal to release the new larger engine whilst there is so much old stock around as the discounts would be even larger.

My guess would be start of Quarter 2 2009 before they start appearing in the showrooms. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I heard either Peugeot or Jaguar were using it first given the state of the 4x4 market at the moment

Is the new motor still likely to be band G?

I appreciate this is just going to be a guess....

Sorry for the chopped post

Can anyone point me to publicity or PR for the new engine?

I just cant see that the group would replace the 2.7 with like-for-like emissions wise when the market for band G cars is dead

For sure it is nonsense that an X5 is 2 quid a week cheaper to tax but the fact its in band F is a big deal
(As is an XC90)

I would much much rater have to try and shift a band F car over a band G one in a few years as they are just so unfashionable

Cheers

I think you'll find the output is at TDV8 levels - who cares about emissions Laughing Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate
