Anyone add a rear dome light?

Is it just me or do you guys feel there is not enough light in the back seats of the RRS? I've got my kids back there and every time I turn on the interior light to look for something in the back, I cannot seem to see anything at night. Was wondering if any of you added a dome light in the rear cab. Also, are those rear light above the rear passengers head only turned on by the switch? I cannot seem to control them with the front dome light switches. Thanks!

To my mind the rear interior lighting in the RRS is nothing short of pathetic Rolling Eyes

I cannot understand how Land Rover have allowed a vehicle of this calibre, not to have rear courtesy lights, when just about every two cent car on the road today has Evil or Very Mad

You are correct in that the two rear lights are only operated by their independent switches & cannot be controlled by the doors opening. Click Here to see how another member (Coincidently also a Canadian) of this forum wired the rear lights to work when the doors opened. It’s quite an involved job, but not one that’s beyond the reach of anyone, fairly proficient in their workshop.

I’ve been meaning to tackle this myself for ages, but haven’t got around to it yet Whistle

So true, I was bitching about it in the "parents" thread below. If you have a baby on the back seat that needs immediate attention from you or your front passenger at night, the lack of available illumination over the rear seats can be downright dangerous, let alone annoying... Speaking from experience here. I don't know what LR was thinking.

Thank you very much Rupert!!! This link is exactly what I am looking for! Looks like a case of beer and some pizza for my weekend project! I was thinking of adding a dome light between the seats but I'm gonna tackle this project first and keep you guys posted. My wife is gonna love this one!

In the UK there is a discount DIY chain called B&Q and they sell some very nice little 3LED, battery powered lights made by Osram. I took a load of them to my ship for use in the wheelhouse at night where we also had a problem with lack of decent lighting for writing vital data at night. They cost about £5 a piece, often for less, I paid £3 a pop last year.

See them here on the Osram website
http://www.osram.com/osram_com/Consumer/Lu...index.html

They aren't that elegant and it would be better to have something OEM fitted but this might help you guys. They attach by a self adhesive patch on the back of a magnetic mount on the lamp. I also fitted a couple of waterproof ones under the bonnet of my Defender for those in the dark times when I might need to open the bonnet for some reason and the Defenders under bonnet light is feeble - have never needed to use them! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

What a coincidence Tim! Same solution I have in the rear cargo area and in the cubby box. Nice to see that they also have waterproof ones...one can never have too many flashlights around!

I've just been in the local halfords auto parts store and they have strips of micro sized LEDs with a press switch that you can stick on the dash to operate them - they even do LEDs with strobe effect blue lights which would be a bit of fun on a fast road with a fair bit of speeding traffic - hide a couple behind the front grille and go out looking like an unmarked police car and just flash them at anybody who dares to overtake at a speed in excess of the speed limit Mr. Green Mr. Green

PJ, you can also get them now that are directional, they have a swivel in the dome - even better for rear courtesy lights! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Great tip Tim...I just reviewed all the models on that website you posted earlier...the directional ones are really a great idea...perhaps a better solution as you say for the passenger area.

Are the blue strobe lights also made by Osram? PJPR

How true it is...when Hurricane Ike hit here in Houston and we had no electricity for 9 days straight, all of the torches/flashlights came out.

I can't believe there is a flashlight forum as well...oh boy!

My favorite of the bunch - in the front of the RRS:

Actually...never. These are the authentic Mag lite clips designed to hold the 3D Mag...so it clips in nice and tight, doesn't rattle or come loose. Very Happy PJPR
