Well, as I said, you can jailbreak 3g phones and that gets Cydia and Installer for the other "Free"apps that you refer.

Let's be clear though, no-one has to pay anyone for that (not that you said they would).

Your software unlock is special though. And if it exists, will be free very shortly too.
(Just like the original 1st gen unlock).

So, IMHO, I guess I don't need the link, it will be everywhere very shortly free..... 2022 P440e AB

Wonka - I took your advice and did some googling.....

This is what I found...

There are 3G iPhones for sale in Cyprus which are both...

SIM unlocked, AND FACTORY unlocked so from that I would ASSUME that there is a way of unlocking 3G iPhones Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

The iphone is a weird one.
- I don't believe that the unlocked at factory phones can't be used with non country of purchase specific carrier SIM cards.

I agree though. It is technically possible to unlock (or lock) anything.
- Just that no-one has found a way to unlock a phone that was delivered locked (using software only)... Yet....

You can stick very small chips on one's SIM card to make it work though, after a jailbreak.
- jailbreak is the process of allowing third party (non app store) applications to be run on the phone. 2022 P440e AB

Remember chaps, jailbreak is not unlock.
- There is no software unlock available for the 3g iphone.

When there is, it will be posted here :-

Correction. The 3G can be unlocked and IS NOT limited to Jailbreaks. ZiPhone may not have cracked it, but many others have Thumbs Up

Hey wonka.... Whats the latest on your software unlock? 2022 P440e AB

Have you considered a Blackberry Storm as an alternative to the Iphone if you need to stop on Vodaphone.
I have had one since the release date without any issues.

Certainly less toys / apps than the Iphone but a damn good piece of kit.

Jonny Fresh has just got one as well.

I like it but there are warnings over here that the networks may not support all the BB features.

The iPhones here are factory unlocked and claim to have no lock up/update issues.

Found a 16Gb 3G iPhone for c. €730. By far the cheapest to date.

If i switch to MTN I can get a subsidised one depending on contract but having worked it out I would actually end up spending more per month Confused Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Dude, you could get a cheaper one... My advice is get ahold of a pay as you go iphone from the UK. £391.
http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/paygo

- Then wait till the end of December, and unlock it using the Dev Team's software. Should be a cinch.
Stay up to speed with that here... http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

- If you wait, you risk Apple plugging the hole in the phone firmware and newer units being unlockable.... 2022 P440e AB

With regards to the iphone - my only advice would be dont do it. I think it is one of the crappest phones available - sure it looks pretty, but i still cant type SMS on it, the camera is pants and no video (I use this with the kids save carryign a camera everywhere), and generally other than aesthetics think i'd save my money and get something better......
