Looks like my clutch is dying!

It looks like my clutch is dying - high revs and little umph plus there is a strange clicking noise when accelerating, like that when you have the RRS in access height and you turn whilst moving. I bet the clutch isn't cheap! Big Cry 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Auto boxes have hydraulic clutch packs for each gear , engaged by the ecu with hydraulic pressure.

If you can hear it slipping you are losing pressure somehow , can be Censored oil in the box (easy change) , valves playing up in the box , a blocked filter INSIDE the box , or a software fault.

The first thing a dealer SHOULD do is change the filter/strainer in the box and flush some fresh oil through.
I'd wager a bag of wine gums to a pork scratching that will sort it out.

PM me if you need more info , I'm sure one of our fellow members works for ATP in hednesford who re-con auto gearboxes ??

It shouldnt be too bad..(cross fingers)

Well that is impressive Big Mart. At least you have read some of my threads. If it is slipping and making a noise chances are it is too late. Just if any one has any type of auto box - in any car - get it serviced every 12 months - 2 years or 20K - filter and oil change. Auto box specialist independants can do it for you - £60 -£100 usually. It stops the high cost bills coming in that VA is now going to experience. But you will not know until you take the sump off and look. The dealer service changes at 5 years or 60k or what ever they recommend are ludicrous if you are working it hard and hot - as VA does off road. Disco 2 and P38 were 48K or 4 years, if it has been hot and the oil has overheated it is too late then!!
As for me working at ATP the largest torque convertor and auto box and vehicle electronics re-man company in Europe from Hednesford, yes I was chief technical, for 16 years - I left in May and I am now Technical Service Engineer - Caterpillar Heavy Construction - Excavators. That is why I don't get on here now - it is too busy to think. When I answered Martin in the spotted section on Thursday that was my first look on here for months.

I won't write a full explanation of the weaknesses of ZF 6HP transmissions on here though, it may not go down too well.

Best of lock to VA - hope it is cheap repair. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Hello Nige,

I havent read many of your posts before , but it looks like were on the same lines.

Can you reccomend a gearbox independent to do me an oil and filter change?

What oil is better to refill with?
Should I use ordinary ATF or some synthetic brew?

I'm getting paranoid now , I need mine changed pronto!
