mostly based on pure looks for me. we owned a disco II and was a great vehicle and the RRS came out and we loved the looks of it. Test drove it and fell in love with the handling of it too. smaller on the inside but the disco II is now long gone and not missed at all.

Same here. I also owned a Disco II and instead of getting me a Disco LR 3 the year it came out, I preferred to wait for the RRS and immediately fell in love with it.

If there's a need to transport real huge or dirty things I own a Volkswagen Minivan T5 4motion which has almost twice the cargo room of a D3, and with the VW there's no risk of ruining the car's interior like in a HSE specced Disco. BTW a friend of mine owns a D3 and he's unable to load two standard sized mountainbikes with the saddles in normal position standing upright in the rear, so there's actually not that much more cargo space in a Disco than in an RRS.

From the outside the Disco looks like a box but inside it's not, whereas a VW T5 is a box on the inside and the outside, which makes more sense. SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE BUG AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE WINDSHIELD

Heart over head decision for me.

The Disco made much more sense but, looks wise, it just doesn't do it for me externally.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

D3 is too wide and too high to fit through my garage door - RRS will fit, but it's a bit tight with only 5mm on each side with the mirrors folded. Freelander2 is also too wide to get in. RRS is narrower and lower than both.

RRSport 4.788m long 1.983m wide and 1.784m high
Disco 3 4.835m long 2.190m wide and 1.841m high
Freely2 4.500m long 2.005m wide and 1.820m high

Came down to storage practicality, but in practise the RRS sits out on the drive too.
I was very impressed with the Disco3 when it was launched, but then I was driving a FFRR, when it came time to change cars I saw the RRS being unveiled at the local dealer and told the dealer that I was no longer interested in the D3, just to wrap up the Giverny Green TDv6SE with Aspen/Parchment interior they had and I would take it away, it was just what I was looking for at the time and suits my needs much better than a Disco3. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

I have been living with a Pikey Wagon on and off for a month now. Ignoring the fact that its a V6 Petrol, I have to say that its an excellent car. Easier access than an RRS, better boot space, MUCH better tailgate arrangement...but while I actually prefer its practicality to the RRS, I am not sure I could live with the boxy looks every day. In white, it looks a bit like a big fridge or washing machine!! Its also a bit "family" for me as its just my wife and I most of the time.

I guess I choose the RRS because I don't need the size and practicality of the Pikey everyday, just occasionally. The RRS looks classy and suits my image much better (according to my own biased opinion)...people still look at an RRS and they don't look at a Pikey (unless its white when they can't avoid seeing it) Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
