In the same market as the RRS (and so I don't mean Jeep or Toyota), it's my humble opinion that the only decent offroad competition outside of the rest of the LR stable comes from the Cayenne. It has all the similar systems to the RRS, air suspension etc and as far as I'm aware only technically loses out on suspension travel.

There's a farmer round here who's Black Cayenne Turbo S is regularly seen driving across the fields and hillsides and whenever I've seen it in town it is always covered in mud. Looks odd on MTR tyres though and I doubt they would be legal on road knowing the speed capability of the Turbo S unless he keeps religiously to the speed limit. He keeps his FFRRS/C for going to church on Sunday. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it 2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW |

The Q7 doesn't have anything like terrain response but the adaptive air suspension does have offroad setting and additional 'lift' setting. As this S-Line runs on 20's then the tyres will ultimately limit its ability to go anywhere. Kaine - I agree totally. I own a LR product and love it although i'm sure it's great off road but we don't go that far off road. A Q7/Touareg/ML or whatever would go just as far MDP - Lovely pics especially the white one with the RS4 style wheels I don't think this model has the iPod interface and as mine went kerputt when I jumped in the pool with it it would be a bit wated on me Kam - Am enjoying it and it does feel to me a much more 'Fresh and new' product than the RRS. It has a nice spec and I think it looks great on the 20's, in silver (A very bright silver too!) with the near black privacy. 'Talked it up' to Mrs ST who said she liked it but not enough to buy one next time, not even the V12 TDi Still, an ML63AMG hasn't been dismissed by the Guv'nor yet Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Joint runner up - 2009 Outstanding Contribution Award WINNER - 2008 ‘Best Thread’ Award – Beautiful Women Of The World Runner Up - 2008 Comedian Of The Year Award Runner Up - 2008’s Funniest Incident 06 RRS TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony, PTI, Running Boards, Privacy, S/C Grille/Vents, Stormers, Tasmods - GONE - ( |

My complex is neither about superiority or inferiority - its simply what makes me feel good. I am a hopeless Land Rover fan, capable of ignoring all of the downsides and turning a blind eye to all of the competition, in slavish devotion to the Green Oval. What I really like about Land Rover products is where they come from. Not so much geographicaly (but being British is a big part of it) but historically. Land Rover have only made 4 wheel drive, off road vehicles. They developed vehicles that were highly capable in adverse conditions, carrying people and loads to and from places other vehicles simply couldn't. My love of these vehicles started when I learnt to drive in a 109" and used her to lug plant and equipment on and off building sites and road works before taking me and all my clobber to Uni. Even today, I get great pleasure out of driving my 1993 200tdi Defender (at least as much as driving the TDv8). She has just done 3 weeks service in the Lake District carrying canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes and all associated gear and people all over the hills and dales of Cumbria. And yesterday she was absolutely fantastic at our local village show. The very damp and muddy parking field soon resembled the Somme and almost everyone of the 200 or more vehicles parked in there needed to be towed out. A fleet of tractors and my Defender (on all terrain tyres !) were the only vehicles capable of towing vehicles out. The only vehicles capable of driving themselves out were Landrover, Toyota and Suzuki products (plus to everyones great surprise, a couple of Renault Clio's with a helping shove from some spectators). The German 4x4's struggled and died in the thick, gloopy mud, on there oh so wide, road tyres (thank goodness there were no RRS's there on Conti's !). My Defender now sits on the driveway, weary, weigted down with mud, but very proud And all this simply illustrates that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", and I for one think Land Rovers are gorgeous RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini Disco 4 TDv6 HSE Ipanema Defender 90, 200tdi CSW Last edited by Smarticus on Sun Aug 10 2008 6:10pm. One common fact landrovers are the "best off-road", they may not be many other things reliable, top quality, even the Soyth Africans rate the landrovers higher than toyatas in the mud, (mind you they do buy more toyotas for the reliabilty factor)how many other vechicles today can you claim are the best in their class. |
