I have just bought what I hope was a bargain but maybe someone out there knows different.

I have just bought a set of 4 new alloy wheels fitted with new tyres for £660.00 to put on my RRS HSE only problem is the new tyres are a different size to my existing ones.

The new tyres are 255/55 R19 111V

My existing tyres fitted at 24k now 45k are 255/50 ZR19 107 Y

So my burning question can I still fit them and what problems may I encounter, the new ones also look larger.

Could be wrong here, but I always thought that the profile (depth) of the tyre is reduced generally speaking as you go up in rim size to ensure the rolling circumference is the same - this means the speedo wont be out? Is this right?

Standard size on RRS 20" are 275/40R 20.

FFRR has 255/50R 20 presumably for better ride comfort  Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

The standard size is 255/50/19, however, 255/55/19 is perfectly ok. The G4 RRS have Goodyear MTRs that come in 255/55/19 so LR see nothing wrong with it. In fact, you'll have a smoother ride.

I put them on yesterday and all drives ok.

I am still concerned that in my handbook it does not list 255/55/19 also mine are V rated and the ones I took off are Y rated.

My understanding is that you took off tyres which have a higher speed rating than your replacements (i.e you took off Y Rated = 186mph and replaced with V Rated = 149mph.

The profile number is the height of the side wall as a percentage of the width so the 255/55/19 will be bigger than the 255/50/19. By running a larger diameter tyre you will put your speedo out, acutally your speedo will be 3.5% out so when your speedo reads 60mph you will actually be doing 62.1mph. Apart from that running the 255/55/19 should not be a problem. Your new tyres have a higher load rating, so you are ok there and tumshie is right about the speed rating so you will be safe to 149mph. www.designerwheels.co.uk
