Hi Chaps,

when I was at JP exhausts having my system fitted I was chatting to a chap who had a bmw 330d in for a complete system.

He owned a speed shop specilaising in bmw diesel tuning.
ANYWAY....

his system (own design) had no silencers because it had a dpf.
I thought it would be a bit lairy but he started it up , quite deep without sounding like a racing saxo!!

when revving it came alive sounding beefy but no reasonance or undignified beahaviour.

He was very happy with the system 'cos it was cheaper to delete all silencers.

Maybe JP will do a custom system with no silencers??
I know they were requesting TDV8 owners to help them to make the patterns for a TDV8 system but I havent seen any posts since.

That's interesting. I suppose it's obvious when you think about it, but I didn't think the DPF would have that much of a muffling effect.

it seems they also have varying effects on power - this is only anecdotal, however when the pdf was introduced on the Touareg (3.0 V6 tdi) owners who'd previously driven the 2.5tdi or pre-DPF 3.0V6 tdi indicated that the power was down

I suppose that makes sense too.... the DPF must restrict the flow of the exhaust to some extent.

Removing the final muffler is not bad idea actually, worth trying anyway.

I'm just back from an exhaust workshop where I discussed my point with the mechanic.
He told me that my idea could work, but to be advised that mufflers don't make much sound differences in diesel engines opposed to petrol counterparts.
But he also told me that it would be his first time on a diesel v8 so he really doesn't really know what to expect by removing the muffler.He also told me that the two smallest silencers at the end of the exhaust don't change the sound at all!!

So it also reduces noise at low speed.

Well what with that and the new glass it might be silent in the cabin.....apart from the odd characteristic noise  TDV6 - gone

Had a look underneath my car and apart from the 2 cats and the DPF there are no silencers in my system.
It seems that the only way to do this is by removing the DPF,replacing it with the '07 silencer and replace the software with pre DPF software so the sensors won't go apesh*t.
Does anyone know if the DPF and the non DPF silence are interchangeable?
One way or another, the DPF has to go.

I had already thought to Your solution and it would be ok ,but there is a problem:
the sofware of the car performs some "minor" cleaning cycles without advicing You (You can hear them when the exhaust sound become a little bit deeper), even if You should find the way to trick the two pressure sensors of the DPF.
I was thinking about reinstalling the old pre-DPF software but Land Rover technicians told me that It would make malfuction other parts of our DPF equipped car.
I think we are stuck with DPF at the moment.
