With you lot being accustomed to buying high quality merchandise, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on buying a new tv and if anyone has been through this Arduous selection process recently??

thanks Something else is always something better:

lcd better as it'll last longer. Plasma bigger as lcd only goes up to 36 inch I think. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yeah size does matter.. what size are you looking at? Large one for living area, or a smaller one?

looking approx 40 -42 inch, so to accomodate a large living area

I know longer term LCD is better as it will not burn the screen like plasmas eventually do: unsure on make though Confused Something else is always something better:

The LCD price is still pretty high, whereas you can now pick up a big plasma (up to 60in now I think) for around 3k. A friend of mine has just bought a Pioneer plasma with built in TV tuner and the pic on that is great. That's a 55" I think although unsure of model.

Well Samsung stuff has always served me well, current rear projector 46" telly and Massiveeeee Fridge are Samsung in my house, i like their designs, so tend to stick to that brand, plus i was told/once read that Samsung pioneered a lot of the technology for the LCD's and most of the computer flat screens have samsung components inside them even if they are branded as another make.

Anyone know any different? samsung LCD if i was in your position, depends on packages on offer/colours available as well though.

Wouldn't bother with the B&O stuff,

Last Toshiba we had lasted over 12 years, was the most expensive 42" telly on the market in the early 90's but they don't make em like that anymore.
