I've been looking to buy a new LCD TV for a while, but I've just bought a video projector instead and it's brilliant Very Happy
We'll still use our 32" TV for normal programs etc. but for films, the projector is the doggies danglies. I'm going to position my Bose surround sound speaker for the projector now rather than the TV.

My Hi-Fi gear is all B&O and I love it. I've had it for some time now, but it still looks good. I don't think I could afford or justify their current high-end TVs though. Although I do rather like their accoustic lens speakers.
You can now specify B&O hi-fi in the new Audi A8 Cool Cool

I bought a 42" Panasonic Viera 18mths ago = Fantastic, but like any technical box it is soon outdated & better things come along Sad

Plasmastill has the edge on LCD for picture/size/value , just read any decent magazine/review to confirm this. Personally for a big room I would still go with plasma.

Most importantly make sure you buy a "HD" ready set! There are certain broadcasts in HD already. Believe me the difference is truly amazing. Some of the best rated HD sets still come from these 3 Pioneer - Panasonic & Sony. I originally went for the Panny as it was one of the first to have everything built in ( ie digital tuner )

In my honest opinion I would now buy the Sony Bravia coupled with their award winning DVD recorder that also upscales dvd playback to the equivolent of HD = awsome Very Happy

Happy shopping

What's in HD already, Martin? I heard Planet Earth was in HD but I thought that was the inaugural UK broadcast of HD... I could be wrong of course, wouldn't have been the first time! Embarassed

I did the whole job last year, telly and dolby digital surround linked to Sky.
Having done as much homework, if not more than when I bought the RRS, I feel very qualified on this subject. Jaymann has seen my setup today.

Plasma - Fast action/moving picture quality can't be beaten, overall picture and colour quality is fantastic, size of screen's available, should last 10 years plus (Who has a telly for 10 years??), price is alot cheaper than LCD which means you could have a new Plasma in 10 years and still save money. There is a danger of picture burn from constant logo images, but having seen plasma's on constantly in shops and advertising I have never seen this burn mark yet. The likelyhood of it happening in a home setup should be low Exclamation

LCD - Expensive in big sizes, alledgedly brighter picture, moving pictures blurr Exclamation , alledgedly lasts longer than plasma( I bet one has not been run that long yet).

I went for plasma. To be exact the one that got the best overall rating from numerous testers, that being the Pioneer 43"XDE. Pioneer are one of the big players in this field. Its down in price right now at John Lewis for about £2800 with a 5 year guarantee free of charge. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

Off the topic again, but the other day I spoke to a LR dealer who does commercial conversions of the Disco3 and they had done a RRS van! Matt

We do a lot of home cinema stuff aswell as car, and as already mentioned, once you area above 36", then plasma is still the best option. I suspect that in the next 2-3 years LCD will become the screen of choice at all sizes, but at the moment, IMO, plasma is still better. (I have just fitted a new Panasonic 42" at home if that means anything!)

There is a HUGE difference in picture quality between screens, and I personally rate the commercial screens (ie with no speakers or tuner) over the residential mainstream units such as the Panasonic Viera.

Rememember to budget for a decent bracket/stand and ideally an amp and speakers, to get the best from the system.

Feel free to PM/mail me if you want any specifics.

Might also be able to do an RRSport group buy if there is enough interest!!

Cheers

Chris
