United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Bio Diesel

Any know if you can run a tdv6 08 range rover sport on this stuff as I run my own company and it sounds a very interesting thought to install on site a bio diesel tank if it worked out we were to make a saving by buying in bulk and running our small diesel fleet on the bio diesel option.

Anyone got any experience of bio diesel and running vehicles on this stuff. Range Rover Sport HSE TDV6 - 08 Plate

I asked my dealer when we purchased our RRS and he said that Land rovers won't run on Bio Diesel. Unfortunate and a surprise as they are modern engines would have thought that they would have made it possible.

Always worth asking your dealer. Don't know if or what any modifications can be done to the engine to allow it to run on Bio Diesel.

From all my research, I've found that nearly all diesel engines will run on bio diesel without modification, as long as it's good quality. Modifications are needed in order to run it on unmodified vegetable oil.
The problem with modern Land Rovers is that the warranty only remains valid if you run it on 5% mixture or less. If they find any more than 5% you will not have a claim under warranty if anything goes wrong. Big Cry

I intend running my Land Rover Defender on bio diesel very soon, (but it's an old one, so no warranty issues). I also intend running a Renault Grand Scenic which is 4 yrs old, but out of warranty. The only thing you have to do is change the fuel filter after the first two tankfuls as it's a cleaner fuel than petroleum diesel and will tend to clean your tank and fuel lines, the resulting gunge collects in the fuel filter. Once a couple of tankfuls have been thru, the engine should be running just fine on it.

I would be interested to know what LRs issues are regarding alternative fuel - maybe there's something in the engine management system that causes problems. I've not heard of anybody running a RRS on bio diesel yet.

My RRS is petrol, but if I had a diesel RRS I would give it a try on Bio diesel once the 3yr warranty was up.

However, please don't take my advice as gospel - as with buying shares.....do your own research. Thumbs Up

I understand that Prince Phillip runs a LR product on bio-diesel (a L322 I think), but LR were keen to point out that it is an experimental vehicle and had been suitably modified.

I would imagine that the LR Lab Engineers are working away as we speak, however LR need to be sure that the product can still be the best 4x4 and remain reliable before they make an official announcement on future usage.

Spoke to my local dealer and they advised that Land rover don't support bio diesel, but they are aware of some customers running vehicles on the fuel without trouble, Range Rover Sport HSE TDV6 - 08 Plate

I'm sure it points out in the manual that the RRS shouldn't be run on any sort of bio fuel. That's not to say it won't work of course, or to say that it will, but do you want to take that risk on a new car?

I am pleased to report that using a 50 / 50 bio diesel this works fine in my car and does not seem to make any difference on the performance.

Nice to be saving around 20 pence per litre compared to the average pump price.

Anyone else using bio diesel ?
