LR Extended Warranty!!!

Hi all

I received a call yesterday from the local LR stealer. They said my
1st year of ownership of one of their RRS ends on the 17th of April 2008.
Which leaves me 2 days to decide if I wanted to extend LR's factory
warranty by 2 more years (3 Years -> 5 Years) for a one-time fee of $1985.

They said the extended warranty will cover the Engine, Chassis, Tranny, Suspension,
.. (except for the bulbs, oil changes, filters, brake pads, ...)

Should I do it?

What do you guys recommend?

Note: If I do not give them a positive answer by the 17th of April, I forfeit my right
to extend the warranty. They said this rule comes from LR UK directly Shocked

Am I reading this right - you have had the car from new for one year and then they expect you to pay for extended warranty for a car 2 years in the future? In the UK we are contacted after 2 years 11 months to see if we want to extend and personally I'm not going to as I think the price is too high and other policies are available. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

If it is $2000 for 2 years warranty - from 3 to 5 years, i'd do it.

I think we, in the UK, are US$2000 for 1 year so from that perspective, it's good value. 2022 P440e AB

Agreed if it's $2000 for 2 years it's a steal but I'm surprised you are being asked this after year 1. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

He isn't is he? From year 3 to year 5.... Confused Either way $2k = £1k and for 2 years that's pretty good value. Can't comment on the time limit - I know you have 30 days after the expiry of BMW's factory warranty to start an extended warranty before the opportunity is removed. But it seems a bit unreasonable to only give you 2 days notice Shocked

And to demand it after the car is only 12 months old when there is another 2 years to go before you really even have to think about it. Re-reading Williams post I see he already has the 3 years warranty................ could somebody be looking for an early bit of commission? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yeah... why pay for it now when you're still covered for another two years? Maybe the sales guy has the wrong end of the stick... Confused

That's true guys.

I got 3 years of free warranty when I first purchased the RRS. At that time, they informed me
that I am "permitted" to extend the warranty by 2 more years for an additional cost only if I
do it before the 1st year of ownership is over Shocked

They claimed this LR rule coming straight from the UK Laughing

I guess that's why they called me saying that my remaining time to decide is two days before
I hit the 17th of April! Confused

I've never had a single problem so far with the car. I hate to throw away like $2K to the stealer Big Cry

Hmm... I would question that it's a rule from LR UK, I'm sure I've never heard of that being the case before. You normally start to get the marketing info around extended warranties as the car approaches 3 years old.

Well. Today is the 17th and my I am looking forward to swipe my credit card at the stealer for $2K to cover the extended warranty Crying or Very sad

I was wondering ...

Q1: Will the extended 2 years warranty (or the free first 3 years warranty)
include LABOR + PARTS or just PARTS?

Q2: Is it INTERNATIONAL or only Local?

Q1: It includes parts AND labour - you need any warranty work doing, it doesn't cost you a penny (or a cent!).

Q2: That I'm not sure of.... I think it's regional - i.e. you can get any warranty work done at any dealer within your own country, but being where you are - I'm not sure the region is wider than just Qatar? Is it the whole UAE? Basically it should reflect the factory warranty, the details of which can be found in your leather wallet.

Well, I went yesterday to the LR stealer to pay for the EXTENDED WARRANTY (~ $2000) and
this is what I was able to clarify from their Sr. Service Advisor (SSA):

* The Basic (3 years) and Extended Warranties do include LABOR + PARTS Very Happy
* The coverage region is the entire Middle East: Qatar, U.A.E., K.S.A., Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Syria, Jordan
Lebanon Razz , Egypt and Morocco.

I questioned the SSA on the reason why they have publicizing that putting 22" wheels voids the warranty.
He came up with a number of lame excuses:

- The 22" are big wheels which increases the pressure on the suspension system Confused
- The 22" cause oil leakages in the syspension system Confused
- The 22" are very uncomfortable and will make you feel like driving on wooden wheels Shocked
- The RRS accessories catalog shows only the "approved" sizes of the wheels (18,19, and 20).
So if LR approves putting 22" on the RRS they would have included a 22" model in their catalog Confused
- The LR Warranty manual (page 9) states the following:
"Vehicle that have been modified or altered from Land Rover Vehicle's original specifications
are not eligible for cover. The programme also excludes any vehicle that has been severly
damaged, or has been subject to a total loss." Confused
- ... Confused

After failing to convince me with a valid reason. I asked for any documentations from LR to back
his statements about the 22". At first he claimed such documents do exist. However, when I insisted
to see them, he failed to show me any. Finally, he went into his manager's office and came back
with the following:

"We don't mind if you put 22" on or even 25", However, if you face a problem with your suspensions
in the future and tried to claim it against the warranty, we will report the condition of your car back to
LR (UK) stating that we found 22" wheels on it. Based on our experience, LR (UK) will most likely
reject your claim if non-fasctory wheels were reported on your car.
"

Yes CJ it is Transferable. The new owner will need to fill a special form for that.
