Just read a post over on Freel2 regarding a black box recorder fitted to a RRS, which has lead to the driver been convicted in court

This has been discussed before but it's a good subject. What I can't remember is if you do a soft reset or disconnect the battery does the information get lost? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I am amazed that the info from the black box was permited as discoverable evidence.................. this is not why the boxes are fitted to the vehicles and while I do not condone any speeding such as this idiot did it doesn't bode well for the rest of us. It will be too easy for Big Brother Gordon and his antifun party to gain acces to the unit now that the precedent has been set.

i guess in extreme cases the black box evidence is required... normally the Police/CPS will be able to prosecute without the aid of a black box via witnesses/skid marks etc.

Why not? Most F1 drivers get to the top in that age bracket... I grew up in Italy and my father taught me how to drive when I was 12...never had a car accident in all the years I have had a car licence...about 20 years... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int. 2005 Quattroporte Grey/Black Int. |

Its not strictly "black box" information is it? In the article it says it is collecting information about the speed just before the accident. Well the police has always been able to do it, all the do is look at the evidence AFTER the accident and deduce the speed BEFORE the accident...all this is doing is making it a little easier, which mean PC Plod and the Army of Hobby Bobbies can do even less work. I think this is a good thing in general, however it relies on the sensors in the car working. If we become too reliant on technology then we loose intelligence...see what happened to the police force and CCTV cameras...CCTV camera usage UP police presence DOWN....crime UP...why? Because nobody watches the CCTV cameras live...only use it for evidence AFTER the incident....or to give people fines... I mean my Tracker (Alarm) stores the last 300 hours of movement, which Navtrack will download for the princely sum off 30 pounds... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int. 2005 Quattroporte Grey/Black Int. |

When I was 17 I had a Ford Escort and I may have done some pretty stupid things in it. Better, maybe, to do stupid things in a smaller car than a 2.5 tonne rocketship? Suppose it's just a matter of training / education / experience. I sure i'd not give me, as a 17 year old, a RRS SC or for that matter a diesel. I've learnt alot since. 2022 P440e AB |

'generally speaking' you test out your own limits of driving when your younger - with this in mind young drivers should drive slower cars - I dont want this to sound like a sweeping statement, however I hope you get my point.
