Bad luck mate... we know the supplied jack isn't up to the job and as a lot of people will tell you, LRA all the time for wheel changing. Sorry you had to learn that the hard way Hope your bro's arm recovers quickly.

I must admit I have never even thought of looking at the jack and the tools supplied, and guess what, I'm not gonna bother, if I get a flat I will call LRA. I would be surprised if you could shift the wheelnuts anyway with the standard wheelbrace that the manufactures supply. Speedy recovery, Steve. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Never trusted scissor jacks or bottle jacks and mine stays in the boot. I'm buying a new set of wheels and tyres off Discowex soon and we're meeting in a hotel car park in Ireland to put all 4 of them on. I'll be taking my hydraulic trolley jack with me & using an axle stand as an extra safety measure. Glad your brother is relatively OK Pedro - could have been much worse. I use an electric wrench for the wheel nuts that runs off the car battery or a 12v socket - it's brill.

I alaways thought Landrover took jacking safety seriosly. My disco 1 and 2 had proper hydraulic bottle jacks with a "v" cradle to locate on the axle. Very sturdy and the car could move quite a bit without falling off the jack.

Not sure why LR don't provide anything more capable. I've been on a couple of LREs where the instructors have made clear the jack's inability to support the car properly and that LRA should be called whenever you need to change a wheel.

Surely if the jack is not up to scratch and a injury occurs a claim could be made again LR

The jacks are stretched to the limit and you must be sure to chock the wheels, front and back, my D3 fell off the jack, fortunately no damage done. Unfortunately unless you were following the manual I don't think you'd stand a chance of suing them. It seems stupid for the sake of £100 on the price for a really good bottle jack LR risk this. Hope your brother recovers quickly. Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate |
