Removal of Privacy Glass...

I am having my privacy glass removed and the dealer says that all the glass will be unusable, even the door windows....I understand the bonded windows...but the doors too?

Also, if I get those done, anyone want to buy a set of privacy glass windows?

Not a fan of the privacy glass....its not a commercial vehicle, I don't carry out illicit activities, and I don't want to look like a chauffeur Wink

If the glass is unusable after removing the film why bother? Simply remove the glass and replace it with new stuff and put the old windows on ebay. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Is it an aftermarket job then? The factory privacy glass is actually tinted glass, not a film... so removal of it would entail replacing the glass Confused First time I ever heard of anyone removing it... each to their own though I suppose.

Would have to be an en bloc sale I reckon as the tint would be difficult to match up with someone elses. Therein lies the problem, your glass will be therefore be worth only as much as it costs to tint clear glass on the RRS. Most likely less. Might not be worth it? Sad

I love my tinted glass..... Wink 2022 P440e AB

Its not a tint...its a factory job...so most likely the windows will get damaged in the removal. Ho hum...the problem is I couldn't find a second hand SC without the tint in the colour we wanted. I'm having so many problems with this one that I might be tempted to turn it in for a new one...at least then I can choose my own specification. 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

If it's factory glass, they should just be replacing the glass with clear glass, so all the existing privacy glass should remain intact, unless they decide to drop it when they're taking it out Wink Could always stick it on eBay and see what you get for it.

Apparently they do not have the expertise to remove bonded glass without braking it. 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

You mean they cannot wield a piece of cheese wire? That is all it requires to remove the front and rear screens and the rearmost side glasses................... I've just been through this with Autoglass when I wanted to replace the front screen because of a stone chip - basically Autoglass told me the car is so new that a repair is better than replacement because they can never get the screen rebedded properly and guarantee a complete seal and also there is great risk of damaging paintwork removing the old screen.................................. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

That's right. They said that effectively all the windows except the door windows (moving parts) will most probably be broken in the course of removal.

I don't know what to say...I've just tried to call them to cancell all that is non warranty related.

I should have know they were this bad from the sales side, I asked them to source me a SC Grey w/black in November and they never got back to me. The dealer is 500yds away from my home...

Basically it seems that the dealers and the service areas are simply doing too well, oh well lets see if the impending recessions sorts the wheat from the chaff... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Sounds like they are proposing to use the Sledge Hammer method of removing the glass 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Glass removal, as Tim has already said, is a simple but time consuming task with a cheese wire. Don't let them anywhere near your vehicle with a hammer. If they can't be bothered to do the job properly don't let them do it at all.

The worrying thing for me would be the possible water leaks created by changing the glass. Confused Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Been trying all morning to call the dealer and modify the job, but Matthew Cullen is too busy to speak to me and the other two guys who answer the phone cannot remember the beginning of the sentence by the time they have finished it... 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Do they actually have the car at the moment? If so, let's hope they don't start the work already...
