Exhaust Tips - knocking

Hey everyone, I have added the exhaust tips onto my car - pretty much the same one s alof oyou have added to your TD's - they look amazing, but on one side I can't stop it knocking against the hanging balances. it only rattles at idle. I checked this morning after along run, and the actual tips do not get heated up - so can anyone recomment what I can wedge or stick between the tip and the balance to stop it rattling? Any help would be appreciated.... Nick

Make sure you have them on as snug as possible, you should have the down pipe of the original exhaust coming through flush with the exit oval of the new chrome end, just losen the grub screws and see if they move a little more in, hope these pics help

if you can position yours as close as these in the picture you should'nt go far wrong, the last picture shows where the weights are in porportion to the chrome end, however that said we are talking about exhausts mounted with rubber bushes so it's a bit hit and miss. Good luck. Speed Limits! not where I live!

I just noticed the one that is knocking is jutting out a little bit more than the one that isn't - so like you said I need to push it back a little bit more......to be on the safe side I got some stick on pads to either put on the pipe or the balance.....to cushion any blow - as the new pipe does not get hot at all, I think they will stick on....and stop the vibration....but of course will try to push it back first and see if thats works...thanks mate

yes it's all fixed now - took it off again and pushed it back as far as it would go - but also added little cushion stick on pads to some parts near the balances and also on the top side of the tip where it nears the underside of the rear bumper (just in case!) and it works wonderfully, and no rattles or sounds at all - at idle or at speed!!! Thanks Steve for your pics and help. Where in germany are you? Mrs Nick and I spend a lot of time in Hamburg with work.

Steve how come your car is on a Scottish registration plate, did you buy from a Scottish dealer? All S's and T's are Scottish registered cars. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

MMM, it's to do with the wife, well her job actualy, because she is GI jane (steady Jay) we have to use the British Forces Germany plates over here, it just so happens that they are currently having a run on Scottish numbers at the moment, I think SN is a perth prefix. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Like Germany but can't get used to everywhere being closed on Sundays!

thanks again for your help today mate - i can't tell you how chuffed I am. 3 weeks into my ownership, and even having the spare cash to buy a TDV8, I've done so much work to my TDV6, I do not want to sell it now. I will post some pics pretty soon when the project has finished - all left to do is smoked rear lights (not too heavy, just lightly smoked) and also 22 inch stormers.

The tips are the best part of the work so far...

Yep those chrome tips do make the car look good, i think it could be standard on factory cars as it does not effect the route of the exhaust gasses Speed Limits! not where I live!
