I think it’s about 14 months since my last post and I was never that regular anyway.

Nice to see some familiar avatars and a healthy growth in mebership.

Judging by VA’s post tally it seems as though I may have missed quite a bit since my last proper visit.

Hi, just a short note to introduce myself, and a well done to all the posters, forum admin and site owner, a very valuable site.

I’m a British expatriate living in Monte Carlo (for all my sins) and now in the process of buying either a Disco 3 or RRS which will be used primarily to transport me on a once a month basis to my real home about 600km down in Le Marche in Italy.

Yesterday I seen both vehicles at a dealership just outside Cannes

Discovery: TDV6 XS Atlantic Auto
Owners: 1 from new
Kilometres: 13,700 FSH
Year: June 2007

RR Sport: TDV6 HSE Auto
Owners: 1 from new
Kilometres: 48,800 FSH
Year: Sep 2005

Would anyone like to make the pros/cons against each of the vehicles above?

The vehicle will be primarily for motorway driving and when I return to Italy it will have to negotiate about 2km off-road terrain.

Hello Tumshee and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately you will receive a slightly biased comparison between the RR Sport and the Disco 3 from most of the members on here. And you would probably receive a completely opposite comparison if you asked the same question over on Disco3.co.uk.

For comfort and ride quality I would definately go for the RR Sport, but if you intend to haul heavy loads back and forth the Disco is the tool to use. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

They are both the same car underneath the skin (well RRS runs on a shortened D3 chassis) but as TB says if you want to move big loads in supreme comfort or tow then the D3 will do the job beautifully, if you just want to run with a couple of folks in the car and no big loads then the RRS is the better option. If you want style over function then buy the RRS and fit a tow hitch, then you can haul a trailer with the same load rating as a D3 and you don't need to have a car that looks like an people mover when you want to run lightly loaded! Both cars are superb tourers though so it boils down to how much gear/ how many passengers you need to haul around with you. You don't need to worry about the offroad performance - both cars are exceptional for that job although very low profile tyres on an RRS are liable to sidewall damage and scuffed alloys so 18 or 19" wheels are the best bet!

I too am an ex-pat but living in sunny Cyprus.

We drove our RRS here in August 2006 and love it to bits but later this year are progressing to a FFRR S/C.

Personally, i'd recommend that's the way to go but i'll be ostracised when we do!

D3 for slighlty more refinement and ride comfort, RRS for everything else!  Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

Hi Martin & co. im not the proud owner of a rrs yet but hope to have one by the middle of the summer. never owned a range rover or any other type of 4 x 4 . father in law has had them for years. should be organising a test drive for the middle of april.
how long should I have to wait once i have placed the order

Welcome to the forum Magpie - if the spec isn't too complex then you might be able to pick one up through the dealer network stock straight away, but usually for a factory order 9-12 weeks was the last that I heard, you may get a TDv6 sooner but expect a wait for a TDv8 as they are selling like hotcakes and engines are in shortish supply. If you want a Supercharged V8 then dealers can source them pretty easily too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
