Hi newcomer here!....got a question about side steps...

Hi all....
Excellent forum...hopefully youll see me contributing on here soon, as im currently looking for a TDV6.

My first question is.... some of the RRS's im looking at have side steps and mudflaps ...how easy are these to remove do they leave any unsightly marks or holes ect?

Side steps can be taken off without any problem, some trim needs to be cut to install mudflaps so they may leave a mark.

has anyone else removed these....are any marks visable? is there any chance for water leakage?

....shame cos i think the lines of the car look better without the flaps - so might have to pass up on the one that iv found....

Welcome, AJ. A 4-5" section of rubber moulding around the front wheel arch is cut to get the front mud flaps to fit flush with the body and to screw them on. So, there will be a couple of screw holes left exposed where the rubber moulding used to be after you remove the flaps, no biggie. Here is a picture of mine after I removed the front flaps, you can see the two holes... I had to remove them when I installed my rock sliders, but I have since put them back on after a bit of creative "cutting" of the flaps around the sliders (I couldn't find a close-up shot, sorry):

If you really wanted you could just buy two new mouldings for the front wheel arches from your friendly stealer, I can't imagine them being very expensive. They are just reinforced strips of rubber. The rear mud flaps don't require modifications of any kind to install, so no signs of them should remain if you take them out. As far as the side steps are concerned, the two replacement rocker panels necessary for their installation have cutouts on the bottom (for the six bolt-on brackets that stick out from under the car to support the steps.) The rocker panels will likely stay after the runners and brackets are removed - unless the owner/dealer saved the original ones, in that case they just snap off / snap on - but they are hidden behind the doors anyway, and unless you look under the car you really can't tell the difference between the two.

Thanks for the informative reply....i think i will get the trim/moulding replaced if the situaution arrises and its good to know that i can take off the steps and then put them back on if i change my mind.

btw your car looks great in white... would get it in that colour but theyre really hard to find in the uk.....not sure id be brave enough to take it on the rocks though!
