I have a 6230i running on bluetooth and don't have a problem. The car is an MY08 and therefore still wired for the hand set under the arm rest but with the factory OE bluetooth as well.

Don't forget that on older models where you are using the cradle, the actual phone calls are still transmitted between the phone and car via bluetooth. The cradle was only ever for charging, phonebook sync and connection to the fin aerial. The advice of the volume having to be below 20 is true though... I had to set phone calls to 18/19 if I remember right.

When using the cradle my phone starts off with a low volume level and have to turn it up to about 25 to be able to hear it, then after about 20-30sec the volume jumps up, then I have to turn it down to about 18 or I get the above problems. When using Bluetooth the volume is about 17/18 and never have to adjust it. @ shmoogle How can it transfer by Bluetooth when the Bluetooth on the phone is switched off? Yeah, I suppose so... As had been discussed here before, I was always under the impression that you always had to pair it to the car via BT irrespective of cradle, but if it works with BT turned off on the phone, then like Jay says, must have all gone via the cradle.

Yeah, phonebook sync was always over the cradle mate... until recently of course, but I thought that BT ws still used for the call even though you were connected to the cradle.

You can have a 6230i in the cradle with Bluetooth switched off.

But if you had it plugged into the cradle, you would get phonebook sync and therefore not have to wonder who's number it was.... you're right though, at least they forced the BT hand now by allowing wireless sync and even getting rid of the cradle interface on 08.5

Trouble is when BT connected the battery lasts next to no time. I have a 6230i in my D3 using a cradle, my E50 is diverted to it. My wife's Fl2 has the MY08.5 phone book, but needs to constantly charge her phone, so ends up with ugly wires in the car, you don't get such good coverage as having the external aerial either.
