Protected no claims

I currently have protected NCD with my current provider, I have made one cliam, a previous car was backed into in a car park buy a nice person who didn't leave any details.

Can anyone advise where I stand with starting a policy with another provider? Does this claim count etc. or is the NCD only valid with my current provider?

Also, does anyone know if LR insurance require a tracking device for the Sport HSE? Currently: Carbon Black 535d

It depends on the terms of the policy. I too have protected no claims and am allowed 2 claims before my NCB shrivels up and dies. A lot of insurers now provide the option of a guaranteed NCB, which obviously hikes the cost up a little but you can have "unlimited" claims without it affecting your NCB. Check your policy or give your insurers a ring - they should be able to clear it up.

I think I remember someone saying here that LR insurance don't require Trackers. And of course, you get offroad insurance included too!

I am going to get a quote from LR - generaly I have heard they are expensive; however when I add the cost of my current policy (relatively cheap) and add the cumpulsory tracking device, and paid out for Gap, it will add another £8/900 to the overall cost of insuring the car anyway.....effectively well over double my current premium

My thinking is that I would rather pay this extra cost out for off road insurance than for a black box and a sheet of paper!! LR also do an automatic annual Green card.......mine currently costs about £20 and takes a week to sort out!

The only issue is the impact of having made a claim even with Protected NCD - will talk to LR and see what they say........ Currently: Carbon Black 535d

NFU is cheaper especially if you do a lot of miles. It includes GAP for the first 2 years, unlimited mileage and off road cover

Complete no brainer!!!!!!!!!!

Just been quoted by LR insurance; £160 more than I am paying at the moment.........

No Tracker required (saving £500 plus subscription)
First 12 months - New for Old (no GAP required - saving between £400 to 600)
Plus off road cover
Plus automatic annual Green Card
They transfer your Protected NCD even with 1 claim in the last 12 months

All of the excesses are also considerably lower......

Therefore if I stayed with my current provider the car would cost me between £1000 to 1,200 more than LR insurance!!!

Not bad earnings for a 15 minute phone call Very Happy Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Direct Line Shmoogle....One other real bonus is the fact that LR insurance do any repairs through the dealer network whereas Direct Line use 'approved' specialists.

When my S4 got backed into (parked in a secure parking bay as I used to live in the Centre of Leeds) the 'approved' specialist not only managed to cause further damage to the car, they also used it as a toy for two weeks for the workshop team to drive too and from work in - it went in with 3/4s of a tank of fuel and came back empty! They didn't even have the presence of mind to fill it up again! 250 miles had been added to the clock!!!!!! Road testing was the excuse....fine until you consider the car went in to have a new off side front light and the wing repaired and resprayed!

They managed to put a scratch down the full length of the car on the nearside and they stained the passenger Recaro seat with coffee!

Needless to say that a frank and honest discussion was had with the site manager, then the UK director. The car ended up being effectively fully resprayed, it had a new front seat and then they also paid for a major service by Audi for the joy riding escapades!

What should have cost them about a grand to sort out ended up costing nearer 6! I had Direct Line agree that should any other issues occur with the car that it would be dealt with through the franchised dealer network - had this in writing.

A note to everyone - be very carefull with where your car goes for accident repair! Incidentaly, the place where the S4 went was no fly by night operation - they were turning over between 70 and 80 repair jobs a week and were the sole sub contractor to Direct Line.

The only reason I stayed with them was down to cost and the fact that they did respond well when the above events occured (compensation etc) . Up until now they were by far and away the cheapest........ Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Interesting ST, you should have insisted on it going through the dealer network. Generally for premium vehicles the manufactureres will only provide you with the corrosion warranties if the work is performed by a dealer approved shop rather than insurer approved. You therefore in my mind have the right to insist on it being done the dealer approved shop. HSE TD6 (Java Black/Ivory)

Fair questions raised Rob, had all of this out before the car went in - Audi do support full waranty for all but the most serious accident repairs if done through approved insurance repair centre's etc.

In this case, Direct Line stood by the terms and conditions of the policy stating that no warranty issues would be incured further down the track and that the work would be fully guarnteed - therefore I didn't have any room to wriggle.

The bottom line was that Audi quoted over twice as much as Direct Line could get the work done in house.

It was a shame though that the repair shop proved my concerns to be right and that it ended up costing them significantly more than if they had let Audi do it in the first place Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Can someone send me the phone number for LR insurance, or post a link.

I have started looking around for insurance as I should pick my RRS up before the end of the month.

My current insurance company, Directline are definately out. For all of the reasons already listed, Tracker required, huge hike in premium etc. . .

I have found a really good quote with Bradford & Bingley of all people. No tracker, Protected no claims, Free courtesy car and 60 days european travel cover. All for less than £50 more than I am paying at the moment. But it all sounds too good to be true, I need to speak to them over the phone to confirm everything.

It definately looks as if it is worth searching around before committing to any one insurance deal.

They are underwritten by Royal Sun Alliance. I have to say, so far the customer service has been excellent - wiped the floor with Direct Line. Got the full paper quote in the post this morning. One query with the doc, rang up and pretty much got straight through to a human without the the usual 10 minutes wait whilst listening to the endless options.....query sorted in 20 seconds flat.

The quote was very easy to read / understand and I even managed to retain the will to live whilst reading the small print! (exclusions etc. etc)

I have to say that the cover is very comprehensive (hence comprehensive cover!!) with a genuine list of real benefits...... Currently: Carbon Black 535d

One of the benefits different to other policies I have had is that the courtesy car provided whilst any repairs are being carried out is allocated for the duration of the repair - not just 14 days as with Direct Line.....many other nice touches like this.

Never thought it was possible to get excited about car insurance!!!!!

All of this WITH full off road cover!!!!! Currently: Carbon Black 535d
