New Forum Member & TDV8 Owner

I have been perusing this forum now for 6 months and decided to join to let everyone know how helpfull it has been to me during my purchase phase of my RRS. I seem to have had, because of this site, more knowledge of the RRS than the majority of salespeople that i dealt with. I ordered a Java Black TDV8 from Trivetts in Sydney and had a pretty reasonable experience considering that this so far is the most expensive vehicle i have ever purchased. The salesman - Ken Kersley was excellent and delivered the car on the date promised. He also picked us up from the airport & dropped us off at our accommodation and prioritised our car for delivery. He constantly kept us in contact during the 5 month wait. He also took the car to have the 22inch Stormers fitted for us before delivery (he had to wait 2hrs). Being an expat englishman he also had an excellent knowledge of his product & i highly recommend him for anyone in Oz looking to purchase a Landrover. Anyhow what a fantastic & awesome vehicle. I was actually waiting to purchase a new diesel X5, but the sheer majesty & presence of the RRS won hands down. Supercharged too expensive & thirsty, TDV6 too slow, TDV8 just right. The power, torque & ride (sporty yet supple) of such a heavy vehicle is incredible & Landrover techs need an applause. It just gobbles up the miles in absolute comfort and is the best vehicle i have ever driven. The only disapointment is the ridiculous ask of having to pay for so called 'options' such as satnav, memory seats, electric steering adjust etc that are standard in some cars half the price. I had plans of modifying but when i got it home i realised that it was absolutely perfect straight out of the box (only 22's). I think that i would only destroy the look of something so perfectly proportioned & coordinated. I hope this wasn't too long i actually have cut it back - sorry.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Welcome to the forums and the TDv8 owners club Mr Boombastic - interesting that in Aussie spec all the items that you mention as chargable extras are standard in the UK.................... but the list price of the TDv8 (which is only available as an HSE or HST here) is £54250 / US$108,500 on the road without optional extras.

Glad that you are enjoying it - as you say it is amazing that such an overtly sporting car has such a fantastic supple ride yet it hardly rolls and you have to hit a pretty big pothole for the suspension to crash. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Australia

Hello Tim - A standard 08 TDV8 in Oz cost me approx. Aus $112k on road (had several quotes-some budge some don't). The only extra i ordered from factory was metallic paint (Java Black) which was an Aus $1,500 option. I also purchased a set of front mudflaps later from my local dealer Aus $199 and fitted them myself (after reading how to do it on either the UK or US forum) & saved myself between Aus $100 & $130 'fitting' charge from dealers. I also ordered a set of 22in Stormers from a another tyre shop in Sydney ($3000 with 285/35/22 tyres - bargain). Dealers quote $4500-$5500. My total purchase price was approx. Aus $115k with 22in rims & tyres. Option costs are satnav $6100, memory for seats $1100, front park distance $850, powerfold mirrors $850, Sunroof $3000, phone integration $2500, active cruise $5500 - some body stop me!That is a small example of what i consider should be standard in such a prestigious and expensive vehicle. That is only a part of the "options' list. I took a long hard look at what i might actually use in the car & decided that i really didn't need any of it. If i had ordered everything on a whim (which i would have in my youth) i could have easily spent another $20k on 'options' that i probably never use. If i was purchashing now i would have a serious look at the new twin turbo X5 (just out in Oz). It has just as much power & torque but has amost everything listed above & then some for same price. But now i don't think i could ever part with my Black Beauty - i'm hooked.

The UK spec, options and price list is here on the LR website http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/Vehicles/Ra...erview.htm
we also get Metallic paint as standard here............

Using a ROE I found on the web AUS$1 = £0.44 so the basic TDV8 cost the equivalent of £49280 in Aus which is £4970 less than the UK price for the basic car but we get the £5k difference as standard "extras" that you have to pay for. LR have always been very good at paring down specs, but here if you buy an X5 and bring it up to RRS spec you will be paying a lot more than you would for the RRS! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Interesting how the options list changes dramatically across different markets.
