Realistic Running Costs

Hi all, great forum. I've been lurking for a while.

Im looking to purchase a used RRS TDV6 HSE 20k miles 06 plate, £34k (chipped)next month, and need to show the misses that its not a nightmare in terms of runnings costs. She used to have a freelander and got stung on more than one occasion !!

She is ok about the mpg (25-30)

I just need to assure her what servicing costs are (im in Bournemouth), how often they are required and any other likely cost headaches.

If anyone can answer and help me get the new toy then id really appreciate it.

Also what are the residuals like? Im going to do around 10k a year and hope to p/ex for v8 in 18 months.

Many thanks.

Servicing is done by a combo of service indicator and 12 months/15000 miles which ever comes first. Annual service comes in at about £275 - £350 all incl. depending on location - and London LR service bays are not necessarily the most expensive, some rural dealers charge higher labour rates than inner London these days.

BTW £34k for a 20k miles HSE is a very good price unless it has some sort of "history"

Residuals for Tdv6's are softening a bit moreso as used Tdv8's are coming onto the used market , although if we have a cold winter then I'm sure that prices will firm again for 4x4's RRSport is still performing well as they are still very much in demand both new and used. Although your RRS still has some factory warranty left on it, if you let it go beyond the 3 years old it would be worth buying an extended warranty or aftermarket product 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Tim

Thanks for the quick reply. Not got a "History", mate of mine is in the trade and will let me have at cost plus a bottle of Scotlands finest !!

Hopefully that will help come resale time with residuals.

Also been offered slightly higher mileage 55 plate, but worried that the warranty will run out soon. Although cost is 2k less.

Servicing costs not really that much different that normal car then, which is good. And MPG is better than my other halfs VW golf petrol Automatic which does 25mpg on a good day !!

Exsigs, have a look at the wheels and tyres - These cars are VERY heavy (2.5 - 3tonnes depending on spec) and if your car has non standard/ aftermarket wheels examine them carefully for cracks / damage.
Also what colour is it as some colours are quite difficult to sell on (Maya Gold and Atacama Sand come to mind) Black is very popular but Buckingham, Cairns, Zambesi/Zermatt and Rimini are also popular. Of the newer shades Stornoway seems to be popular but nobody has yet reported seeing an Izmir Blue version. Tonga Green is good on the RRS but not very common. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
