Newbie looking at S/C RRS

Hi all,

Just have a few questions, please bear with me if they sound a bit stupid!

Looking to replace my current ride (Focus ST - yes I am from Essex! Embarassed ) with let's say a more practical [family] car. I had been looking at, and had set my heart on, a 535d Touring; that was until the wife wanted to have a look at the RRS. Having been in and out of hot hatches, an S2000 and a Boxster, I wasn't keen. Cut a long story short - I fell head over heels for the RRS. I testdrove the TDV8 and was looking at PCP'ing a new one. However, doing some sums, it seems to make far more sense for me to go down the used route based on the fact I do only 10k a year. Given TDV8's are still holding value well, the S/C now looks like an extremely good option.

I'm looking in the region of £35-40k and <20k miles. Seen a lot of 55 platers and a few 06's.

Questions are:

- things to look out for? I know offroad damage is pretty obvious, but is there anything particular to the RRS that I should be conscious of?
- all cars go wrong eventually, but any particular traits for the RRS and S/C in particular?
- rough costs of extending the Land Rover warranty? Say for two years on top of the LR Used Warranty
- rough servicing costs?
- probably a very popular question - fuel consumption. What can I expect?

On mpg, I have heard horror stories of 8mpg through to my mate who has a full size Rangey S/C getting 18 as an average and 21 on a run. Based on the fact the ASBO is only giving me c. 20 at the moment, it won't be too much of a shock..........I hope! Other than the 100litre tank! Shocked

Thanks in advance for your help chaps (and ladies if there are any)
Thumbs Up

Cheers,

Dunk RRS S/C wannabe owner!

2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Zermatt Silver

Went from a 996 to the s/c not so long ago. I have had some tails of woe, but bought from a dealer who in their defence are bending over back wards to the point where if there is anything annoying me about the car, they will pick it up and fix FOC - for the time being at least!

You are in the right price bracket, but if from a dealer maybe expect around the top end of your range

Warranty - right now, for 12 month extended warranty is £1,256, but bear in mind if you bought a RRS from a dealer, you would get either the balance of the manufacturers warranty to a minimum of one year, or they would put the extended warranty on for 1 year from your purchase if the car would fall out of manufacturers warranty in your first year of ownership, if that makes sense.

Price wise - S/c certainly look a steal, but I have little doubt that in a few years time i will have lost less than had i bought a TDv8, so something to bear in mind. Bloody lentalists.

As for mpg - drove to paris this weekend with a full load (i.e. 5 big guys) at an average of maybe 100 random units of speed. All motorway miles really, and got 14mpg. It shocked me a little to be fair. Best I have got on the motorway cruising at 80 has proobably been 16-17mpg.

It chews more fuel than my 996, but i much prefer the RRS

Thanks mate.

I managed to get a drive in my mates Rangey Vogue SE Supercharged at the weekend, which has really cemented my opinion that I definitely want to go for the s/c. Bit shocked that over a 15mile run, w/o ragging it too much I returned 13.9mpg on his, but on balance I'm not sure I'm bothered too much. I guess you have to take the car for what it is - just drive it and not worry about fuel too much. I only do 10k a year, so it's not going to be too bad.

I've read stories about journo's getting 13 pretty much all day long. Any other s/c owners - could you let me know what you get? I've done my sums on 13mpg, so hopefully any improvement on this will be bunce! Smile

Also, what are the servicing costs like? I've budgeted £600 a throw.....

Thanks for your help RRS S/C wannabe owner!

Service costs are around that mark, a little cheaper but most LR service centres will charge about £120 per hour but many members have been able to get a 20% discount on these rates - worth asking! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Spain 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

I have to say, picked mine up yesterday and filled it up. Took it for a leisurely cruise 4 up with the little 'un on board so very nice and easy. Didnt check the mpg but it hardly moved off the fuel guage. Think if you keep it nice and smooth you can do very well, although I did put my foot down once (when i was on my own) and that 5 seconds was the equivalent of driving for 20 mins smoothly.

But you only live once, and the rush you get from a bahemoth thundering down the road is more than worth it. Just Picked up: 2006 RRS S/C, java with Ivory.

I wonder if the MPG figure of 26 I use for the TDv6 is a bit high?
- Anyone any comments on that? 2022 P440e AB

Over my year's ownership I got 25mpg, mostly motorways so I don't think it's far off the mark.
