United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Newbie RR Sport TDV6 HSE Buying Advice

Hello,
I'm in the process of buying a 2005 55 TDV6 HSE off a private individual and have a few questions:

- Are there any common issues with this model that I should be looking out for?
- A replacement new engine was needed approx 4k miles ago, and this was done on the warranty - should this be an area of concern as the owner has told me that this was a fairly common problem, is this correct?

Thanks,

J8ke

There are various problems but some suffer from them others don't. The main one being a knocking noise coming from the from suspension. Do a search on the site to see what to look for. Check out the quality of the paint finish, some owners have rejected cars due to an 'orange rind' appearance. Lastly new engine is a worry - as far as I know no one on this site has had to have this done. If I were you leave this one alone! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Hello j8key, I purchased a 2005 55 plate TDV6 back in July. It has 26k on the clock now and it runs like a dream. You say the one you are looking at had a replacement engine! How many miles had the previous engine done and for what reason was it replaced?

Thanks for the quick reply!

As the engine was replaced with a new one under warranty and the fact that the car still under warranty I was under the impression that buying thie RR Sport having had a replacement engine is not really a bad thing....24k miles on the clock, with only 4k miles on the new engine.

Ask yourself why the engine needed replacing. Possibilities are that the original one was a dud, or has the car been driven too hard? Is there something else that made the engine die? It's your choice but there are plenty of 2nd hand RRS's out there.

New engine-4k on clock, I would still be sceptical, but it will still be under warranty for year or so!!! Java Black TDV6 HSE - Java Grandes Marques 1/18 - Ducati 749s

Dubious... I've never heard of an engine being replaced. The dealer is shi**ing you if he says it's commonplace. And because of that alone, I would be walking away and spending my money elsewhere.

Just to confirm that this vehicle is for sale privately, not through a dealership.

I've just spoken to the dealership that replaced the engine and they can confirm that a brand new engine was replaced in May this year at 17,609 miles - the engine just seized up on the motorway and was sent off to LandRover to investigate however the reason for the engine failure was not determined so the dealership has deemed that this was a freak occurence and that the engine must have been a dud.

The car had been serviced prior to the engine failure by this dealership at 16,006 miles. There is now 24k miles on the clock and there have been no issues with the new engine.

The dealership sees no reason why there would be an issue in me purchasing this vehicle because of the new engine. They also mentioned that they have only seen 1 other engine failure and that was due to lack of oil! So, as you guys have stated, engine failure is not commonplace...and the present owner has obviously told a white lie here or has been misinformed by Land Rover!?

Sorry mate, you did say... Embarassed

However, even with the confirmation of the repairing dealer I'm not sure I would be going near it. Private seller, no comeback... warranty or not, I'd be walking away. There are plenty of others out there... must you buy privately? Question

I buying this RRSport HSE for £34k and here's the spec for those that are interested!:

2005 55 TDV6 HSE
Java black
Ebony black premium leather with rhodium trim
Privacy glass
Roof mounted flip-down rear dvd player and wireless headphones
Side steps
Cooler box
PTI Bluetooth
Sunroof
Brembo front callipers
24k miles
2 owners
...plus NEW ENGINE!

Other than the fact that some peeps are sceptical about it having the new engine, would you say that £34k is a good price for this spec?
