The 'Event Data Recorder' has been fitted (certainly in the UK) since the RRS was introduced. |

To find this out I just went on LR's website and looked at each year's owner handbook. More or less the same wording is in each including the 2005MY. It states steering wheel position, throttle position, speed etc are all being monitored and in the event of a crash the last 30 seconds of information can be assessed. It is on a different page numbers but you will find the details somewhere near the beginning - probably under 'general information' or something like that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is a tad off about the idea. Any ideas how to switch it off without using wire cutters (if I could find its location that is!)? |

Don't think the information could be used without your permission. Careful anyone with their RRS's on Hire Purchase as the finance company owns it!

It started when the MOT emissions came in. The plods were going to be given Gas meters, OBD diagnostic kit and all sorts of gear to prosecute on the spot for high exhaust emissions. Then it got more intense and we have to follow the USA (as is the norm). As clutchdust says the ECU,s all talk on the Can Bus system constatly transmitting data so you can't disconnect it. The type of system has been used now for about 5 years and is in loads of cars. As for actually using it the legislation is not yet fully complete is what we have been told but there is no way around it.
