I hear exactly where you are coming from The Biggy, mine is still knocking and with no resolve either, and like you there is not another vehicle out there at the moment that i would prefer to be in as my every day car, but trust me Landrover if you are reading this, i am sure that if there were a suitable replacement for the RRS then many of us would of jumped ship Evil or Very Mad some of my Previous cars

Well biggy I tried the rejection process only a few weeks ago because the knocking was not the only issue. The supplying dealer had a LR steering expert out, from the factory, to look at the car and he broke the fuse box which is part of the wiring loom whilst removing the DR fuse. They offered to try and fix it by making another way of holding the lid on because it was such a big job to rectify but I refused. I lifted up the harness and pulled it out and found where the TW##T had thrown the plastic bit and plastic welded it back on. There were also marks all over the leather and they have since replaced the back seat and cubby box lid. When I tackled LR I was under the impression that I was getting a new replacement vehicle with a charge for the miles you have got on the clock. Which I would have accepted. By the time I reached the supplying dealer they had discussed it with LR and I had to speak to the new sales manager because he had taken the telephone call from LR. I was told that because all the other issues could be rectified the only one that was impossible to cure was the DR knock and because of this being a characteristic of this vehicle - a rejection was not possible.
It has been back again twice since, it now has 3 marks on the exterior that was not there when I left it, and is going into another dealer agaiin today. It is the most expensive car i have ever bought and the worst. Half the things I ask the dealers to do they can't so I have to do it myself at home. When I worked in the Rover dealers ia the late 70's and they were LR and Rover combined we dreaded the RR coming through the door because we called them the devil - Poorly built with inferior parts - but unfortunately nothing has changed as far as I can see. I feel like setting fire to it. I hope you get some where with yours. Thumbs Up You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Well I test drove my car this morning with the mechanic. Still getting a knocking sensation through the steering wheel, and fortunately the mechanic felt it too. He concluded that it was more pronounced under heavy braking and accelerating. So hence the car is staying at the dealers.
The only thing I have been given by LR apart from an ulcer is a set of side steps f.o.c 'cos I asked for them.
I often wonder, how long is an unreasonable amount of time with faulty car ( three months so far) before I can get a refund.

To be fair frizz the staff have been really good as have LR customer services but the actual hands on is so bad the incompetance is a joke. I told LR that my trips to the dealers have now cost time off work, and 500 miles on the clock, 70 quid in Diesel, and they said ask the supplying dealer to give you compensation in the way of a gift like yours so I asked for privacy glass and got told no. I would prefer a full refund like you just said. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Just a thought Idea

Has anyone else noticed that almost without exception the 'accurate' reports of this ARC noise come from owners of right hand drive vehicles. For example, the SC is fitted with this ARC valve and I cannot recall US owners reporting this problem and rejecting vehicles.

Any difference between LH and RH drive vehicles and hence a clue to the problem?

You may have a point rrsjo.
Some-thing I've been thinking about for a few weeks.
In the owners handbook the recommended fluid for the DRS is texaco cold climate PAS. Maybe the fluid used in the export models is of a higher viscosity to tolerate the higher ambient temps of hotter climes, hence dampening the movement of the valve in the pump housing. I wouldn't have thought that the operating system is any different to UK spec vehicles, that is of course, if it is fitted in the first place.
I must admit that on a cool morning my arc pump makes no noise until about a mile or two up the road when the oil in the system has warmed up.
The fact that the pump is mounted directly to the engine cannot help as the engine itself would amplify the noise to some degree.

Smile Just to let you know that I emailed our local TV station about the problems we are having with our Sport and said to them that its a much wider issue than just our car. Its every HSE that has the arc noise. plus our other knocking noise. They are interested in our story and may possibly come and film us and the car. I hope they do as it will highlight their lack of customer care and their avoidance of the issues. We live in Solihull where the vehicles are made and I'm sure they won't want the publicity this is bound to bring. Will let you know if they come to film us. Smile Wink

That's excellent the biggy.
Incidently, My local oil specialist tells me I am not the first owner of a RRS to inquire about different oils that can possibly be used in place of the recommended texaco cold climate PAS. But he advised me to stick with it for the time being. The reason...... LR could invalidate the warranty on my vehicle, and they probably would!

So how many of you LH drive owners have Dynamic Response fitted and have this knocking coming from the ARC valve - or is yours OK?

I have mentioned this before frizz. I tested the oil in our quality section at work and the so called Texaco cold climate stuff is actually Texaco Dexron 3 Auto transmission fluid. I have been working on it with some people from USA and also some Swiss people who used to employ Dr Landis the man who invented Mobil 1. I am going to drain some of the fluid off when I get the car back from the dealers and add a supplement to it. The next step if that does not work is replace the Dexron 3 with Dexron 5. As soon as I have an answer I will let you know. LR use the same oil in the climates that you mention but you are right about the viscosity because I noticed that the more I drive and the hotter it gets the worse the ARC noise is, obviously as the oil gets thinner with the heat. The supplement I am going to add gives it the negative molecules to stop it breaking down and make it more efficient and more heat resistant. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Here we go again!

Called the dealer to see if the have made any progress on my car regarding the clonking sensation through the steering wheel when braking and accelerating from standstill.
The reply was........."Oh, we've got a couple here that do the same, so it's a characteristic of the car".
What a load of crap! Didn't do it when I bought the car , does it now, so some-thing is faulty, surely?
Has or does anyone experienced the same. If so, was it fixed?

frizz.

The only characteristic of the car you should have is the clonk when you snatch the steering wheel at 20mph from the arc valve in the DR system. Any other problem is NOT a characteristic Evil or Very Mad
Make them put it right. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

When I bought my RRS the sales broucher told me about the wonderful driving position, the good looks, the 4x4 capabilities - I don't remember ever seeing anything about an annoying clonk - if it's a characteristic of the car they should advertise it! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.
