Right, they have 14 days to issue a Notice of Intent to Prosecution. I'm not sure how much leeway exists on that timescale (postal strikes, etc), but you should normally be in clear on day 15.

With regard the speed at which they prosecute, the rule of thumb is 10% + 2mph. So VA, your 57 in a 50mph is tight but should just about be ok. Also remember that speedos aren't that accurate (hence the unofficial 10% margin) and usually display slightly over the actual speed the car is doing (my Road Angel has verified that on a number of cars.., including the RRS). In other words, your 57mph was probably 54-55mph in reality anyway.

In conclusion, you'll most likely be ok! Thumbs Up MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs

I remember someone telling me that they have a legal obligation to send it out within two weeks of the offense if you haven't received it by then you are in the clear Thumbs Up

As long as it is sent once within that time limit. But should it be held up for any reason ie. postal strike then it has still been sent. So they could post on the 14th day and you might not receive it for a week which still counts I'm afraid. Should you have moved house etc etc they can send more after that time limit as long as the first was done within 14 days. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

Yep, that sounds correct Josh. So it's really a matter of checking the datestamp on the envelope, if it's not there by day 15? However, I still think VA will just about be ok with the speed he was doing! Thumbs Up MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs

No news is good news VA! Thumbs Up

I'm similarly sweating after coasting through a forward-facing Truvello camera at 38mph in a 30mph zone. Not a major sin, you would think, but a recent survey showed that 60% of all current endorsements issued are for speeds of less than 10mph over the limit. Now THAT'S really criminal!!!

Somebody try and convince me this is genuinely about road safety and NOT revenue collection by stealth! Evil or Very Mad MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs

Brian - I agree

My Mother got caught a year or so back doing 36 in a 30. My Mother is and has always been the slowest driver in the world and has always followed the speed limits - she got caught after pulling out into traffic and then accelerating to get upto speed going over by 6 mph - she was so upset she now drives even slower annoying traffic in the process Rolling Eyes
