Cheers ENVOY I appreciate that.

I checked this morning after my drive home last night, to see if there was any evidence of rubbing & there doesn’t appear to be.

So they might be ok, but geez they are very close & I don’t know would I happier with swapping to the 275’s. I think it's the 45's rather than the 40's are the probelm.

I did take a couple of photos of the problem area with my phone this morning, but I’m not too sure how clearly the photos show the situation.

They will at least show the area of concern.

Not having done that myself I can't personally comment, but it seems it's closer than it should be. 20s are such a common upgrade, let alone also potentially being factory supplied that we'd have seen this before...

Can other 20in owners confirm the spacing around the tyre for us?

I’ve fitted 295 45 Pirelli’s on my Stormers, based on feedback here that many have gone down this road rather than the factory fit of 275 40’s. For reasons of comfort & kerb rash protection.

So as you say Shmoogle there must be others on here with the same fitment. So let’s hope someone comes along to offer their 2 cents worth.

Looking at your photos you have about 2mm clearance at that particular position. You should take into account that neither the wheels or the tyres ever run perfectly true, so the clearance may be less when the wheel rotates.

In my opinion 2mm is far too close for comfort anyway. If you saw the European Grand Prix last weekend, you will have seen the consequences of a front tyre rubbing on the suspension of Lewis Hamiltons car! As you are able to exchange the tyres for another size without charge, it would seem, for safety sake, beat to change to 295 X 40 X 20 - the same as Envoy has fitted. Perhaps if you ask, Envoy would oblige with a photo of the clearance this size provides. However, according to the tyre size calculators link posted above, you would have about 10 mm clearance.

My advice would be to change without delay.

I'd be inclined to agree with you rrsjo it makes me uneasy when I see the minimal clearances I have. Albeit disappointing as many on here have said they go for the 295 45’s, but then I wonder how many are going around with clearances like I have ??

My gut instinct is to change to either the 295 40’s like ENVOY or just it like they do it at Land Rover & fit 275 40’s.

My mate is checking into prices & availability for various size tyres, such as 275 45’s to give that extra sidewall height for comfort.

We’re getting horrendous prices for the 275 40’s as fitted by LR, but then what price do you put on having things right !!

I still find it odd that those with 295/45s haven't mentioned anything about this before (or at least anything that I ever remember hearing).... but as rrsjo says, who wants to have a tyre go at 70mph on the motorway Confused

275 x 45 should give you an extra 5mm clearance ( 7mm total) over and above the 295 x 45 ones. The speedo would also read approx. correct. Thumbs Up

275 45’s are what I’d like, as I’d prefer the higher profile over the 40’s for comfort reasons.

Just remains to be seen if we can get them.

Most disappointing really as I was thrilled to be getting the Stormers fitted last night, having opted for the 295’s as recommended.

Anyway, best to get the thing right, eh ??

Idea

Just realised that your original wheels were not 20", therefore your speedo will NOT be anywhere near correct and will need recalibrating.

Well my original wheels were 18’s with 55 series tyres fitted. The 20’s with 40’s fitted as they would come from the factory would be pretty much the same, as with a “taller” rim, the lower profile tyre would compensate accordingly.

Now in my case I fitted 45’s, so there would be a difference alright. However on measuring up the two set ups I found that the Stormers were 2 ¾ inches taller than my original set up, but divide by two, as the wheel spins around the centre axis, you get a touch under 1 ½ inches of a difference & by the time nearly 3 tonne of RRS rests on them, the difference becomes less.

Now this is my take on the situation & could be completely wrong & perhaps if you get dealer to fit your 20’s for you, they re-calibrate the speedo on “Test Book” or whatever it’s called these days.

As a test though last night I was behind “wifey” in her Freelander & got her to sit at exactly 80Kph & tucked in behind her, my speedo was pretty much bang on 80Kph too.

So I dunno Confused Question

Anyway, my bigger issue at the moment is the closeness of my tyre to that knuckle. When I get that sorted, I’ll be happy to deal with an erroneous speedo. I’ll speak to my dealer about it over the next few days.

Rupert i checked the clearance on my tyres tonight and i have at least an inch or so clearance so i would say that yours is not right, mine is TDV8 with Brembo brakes and it was fitted with 20's as standard, maybe that's why mine is different Confused some of my Previous cars

You know, I thought of that about an hour ago……..Brembo Brakes !!!!

Currently both the TDV8 & SC are coming with 20” rims, but both have Brembo’s.

That said though, long before the advent of the TDV8 there were lots of Stormer fitted Sports.

I’d hate to think that my SE originally fitted with 18” rims, cannot take the Stormers Shocked

They were after all offered as an accessory fit for the RRS.

There are those on here that have fitted the Stormers to their Sports, while not having the Brembo setup……………….

There are……aren’t there......please.....somebody Shocked

Two questions:

1) Are the Stormer wheels that you fitted OE Land Rover accessory ones?

2) If they are not OE accessory ones, are you sure they have the correct off set? If not, this would explain why they are so close to the suspension upright.

Land Rover sell the Stormer wheel as an accessory and appear not differentiate which model or wheel size it is a suitable accessory for. Therefore the same correct off set wheel should fit all models regardless of the size of the original wheels or whether they are or are not fitted with Brembo brakes.
