Pothole Problems

A friend brought a Range Rover Sports last year and recently a Disco
V6 Diesel for his wife.

A while ago he hit a pothole with the RR and the vehicle immediately
shut down. After re-starting, he has had no further problems.

He is concerned that exactly the same thing has just happened in the
Disco.

He would appreciate any thoughts on what is going on.

Tks

Pete

When you say shut down did the RRS simply stop or did loads of warning lights come on? If it's the later a simple restart of the car as your friend did often cures any problem, this will be the same od the D3. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

At least it didn't wreck half of the wheels on your car like it did to mine recently.... Rolling Eyes

Hi
My apologies for the delay in replying.

Apparently, in each case, 'loads' of lights did come on. They went off one by one and then a restart fixed the problem.

I guess from this, that there must be some sort of sensing system within the suspension that measures dangerous excursions of the components. Is this the case please?

I have a Disco 2003 TD5 and a manual reset of a switch on the firewall is needed if a severe shock triggers a total shutdown.

Thanks for your interest.

Pete

That sounds as though there is an interesting story there around this.

Thought I'd posted about this....

Short version: new pothole appears, I drive over it because couldn't avoid without driving head-on into oncoming traffic. Net result, front n/s alloy literally ripped in half, rear n/s alloy buckled. Two new wheels, two new tyres and the commencement of a claim against the council for not maintaining their roads in an appropriate manner.

No harm done to anything but the car Very Happy
