Rev limiter

does anyone know at what RPM the rev limiter is????

and on a diesel V8 what it feels like

I presume that you can only find this out when you are travelling flat out in top gear, as it changes up through the gears before it hits the rev limiter, unlike the old P38 Range Rover which you could hold in gear until it reached its rev limiter Confused

I do know what the rev limiter(governor) on a diesel motor is like , it just feels like it has reached its maximum RPM and it just doesn't go past a certain point, but on a petrol the engine judders and seems to misfire when you hit it the rev limiter

the reason for asking is, i think i hit the rev limiter today, but it felt like a petrol motor feels and not how i expected the diesel to feel, or is there something wrong with the engine Confused some of my Previous cars

Why not lock it in low ratio and 1st gear? This should get the rev limiter working without your photo appearing in the local constabulary's most wanted. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

The rev limiter in my van is set really low Evil or Very Mad When you reach it the revs just stay there and acceleration stops (and you cr-p yourself as you are most likely overtaking Embarassed ) There is no misfire though.

Cheers mlines i never thought of trying it in low range 1st gear, will it hold it in first gear or will it change up gear automatically ???

Cliff that is what i am used to on the 90 and 110 and Disco, but the RRS definitely started to stutter Confused Confused

Eh up big boy
The rev limiter in the P 38 is more severe because it shuts the injectors off so is quite sharp
There is one on the Diesel you have -but it should really upshift to the next gear before you hit it but it would feel strange. The limiter you are thinking of in top gear is the speed limiter - this just stops it accelerating and holds it at 130mph - slightly different as there is no strange feeling with this one.
As for your 70 mph -well you only have 2 speeds, on of off the pedal, so if anyone was going to hit the limiter I would have bet on you Smile Smile You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

I thought if you put it in low ratio and manual gear mode and change down to first then it would stay in first - otherwise steep off-road hill descents would become interesting if it decided to change up just when the going gets tough.

Martin i suppose you are quite right about the low gear and down hill, but isnt that what hill decent is for Confused

Nige Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter I hear what you are saying but trust me it didnt just get to the speed and stay there it felt like a misfire or even fuel starvation, it concerned me enough to slow down, i thought the engine was going to die, at 70 of course Whistle some of my Previous cars

Of course you could put it in neutral or park, EPB on and sit on your drive and revs the nuts off it until the limiter cuts in........................... no risk of setting of any speed cameras or upsetting the locals then! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Mine just stopped getting any quicker @ 135 mph very smooth.

Without a limiter I would hate to think how fast it could go as it still had loads of urge.
