Chipped TDV6 v Standard TDV8

Hi, I am new to the forum and need some advice please!!

I want to change my Audi S4 for a Range Rover Sport and am tempted to go for a TDV6 and have it chipped; however, the TDV8 seems to be a great engine. I don't want to buy new so the question is, should I wait for some used TDV8s to come on the market or go for a TDV6; is the difference in performance between the chipped TDV6 and the standard TDV8 extreme? Also, will the depreciation on TDV6s accelerate with the advent of the new model?

Any advice gratefully received

Drive the two versions as standard and you will see that the difference is worth every penny!

Welcome Braider Very Happy

In fairness, the TDV8 is the engine to go for... and although there aren't many used around you may be able to cadge a deal on one. Send a PM to forum member Kam (Kam100), who is a forum sponsor and maybe be able to source a deal for you within your budget (both TDV8 and TDV6).

The TDV6 has been one of the best performing cars in terms of residuals. Whether this performance will be impacted by the growth of the TDV8 only time will tell - but it certainly won't be a problem in the near future. The price differential between the TDV6 and the TDV8 is still probably too great to mean that anyone who wants a diesel RRS will automatically go for the V8.

As for on-road performance - there is still a marked difference between a chipped TDV6 and a stock TDV8. A chipped TDV8 is even quicker still....

If it's a matter of time and money go for a TDV6 and get it chipped. The TDV8 is a far better drive but difficult to get 2nd hand. Get the RRS now rather than wait. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

TDv8's are available 2nd hand - usually dealer's ex demo's but you will pay almost full list price for them, even for private sales as there is a waiting list for factory orders and they are in demand. My local dealer has a Java with ivory leather TDv8 on the showroom floor at the moment and if you are quick you will get it before they register it as a demo car but they want £54030 for it - comes with tow pack and rubbermats for that price! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Welcome Braider
The price of the V8 is atarting to drop slightly on used because it is close to the FFRR
Look on the Sytner.co.uk site there is normally about 15-20 secondhand ones on there (V8 RRS Diesels) and there is one at £50,800 with hardly any miles on
Also some at 51K ish
As already mentioned try both and see what you think
You pay the money - you make the choice.

Good luck, let us know which one it is to be.
