As much as my missus likes cars (we met that way) I'm not sure she'd be up for it this weekend... I'll probably make it to another one soon, though. |

A bit of both... I made it clear that I was happy to shop around, but wanted a deal from my local dealer, and as I said, it was "right time, right place" - as the DP seems desperate to register the one in their depot.

What makes me laugh [ not ] is that LR can't make enough RRS's - yet their dealer network have destroyed the used market with regard to prices and customer confidence

Just dropped mine off at the dealers to have a hands free phone kit fitted and they have a 55 plate Zambesi TDv6 HSE, with Rhodium and Black leather, on the forecourt with a sticker price of £41k. It hasn't appeared on their website yet so I don't know what the mileage on it is. The only extra that I can see on it is that it appears chromed standard tailpipe tips. If the dealers are not offering high partex values they are certainly cashing in on the desirability of the car on the used market. In the showroom they have a Java TDv8 with Ivory leather and only option is the towpack. Asking £54030 - price includes rubber mats that are a on the spec sheet as a dealer fit accessory! So Jampott got a nearly new TDv8 for only a little more than the price of a TDv6 HSE with some options and with no wait! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

On the contrary, your advice was extremely useful. I have been doing my homework over the last few weeks / months, but not with regards the 2nd hand market, and input from current owners, or people in the same situation as me regarding what would be a good price to pay was extremely important in having confidence that it was a deal worth doing... The opinion seemed to be, "do the deal if its more than £3k off". It was, so I did. QED.
That's kinda why I was a bit embarrassed to say. I'm well aware how depreciation is closely linked to confidence in the market, and I do NOT want to be hit with a a steep curve, especially as I'm buying now not 12 months ago. In fairness, I don't think this 1 deal is indicative of the market. I've been into the dealer 3 times (albeit at quite strange times) and they weren't open on BH Monday at about 3pm when I swung past. Each time I've been in, there has only been me in there. OK, so it might be odd times, but there were no browsers or tyre-kickers even, so it is highly plausible that this dealer was having a bad week / month / quarter, and they didn't want a guaranteed sale walking out of the door. I made it clear from the first time I walked in that I'd made my mind up and was going to buy a RRS, and that I wanted to buy from them, but wouldn't if I got a better deal elsewhere. In fairness to the salesman, he knew I wasn't bulls**tting, and that's to his credit. Sometimes a dealer WILL sell a car to make 0 profit, if there's other reasons for them to do so. He readily admitted that they couldn't possibly discount a normal "2nd hand" car by that amount, and certainly not a new one - but was able to (and prepared to) "give away" their allowance for it being a demonstrator just to capture a customer and stop me going elsewhere. I guess they figure they get to register a new demo (this one was reaching end of life) and that I'll be happy to return for some extras, my servicing and warranty work, and perhaps even my next car. Quite right too. I'm loyal like that. I bought my S4 based on ringing around looking for a cancelled order, as I HAD to have a B6 shape (smaller grille) and they'd stopped making them. Found a dealer with the car I wanted in the right colour, and haven't looked back since. Struck up an excellent relationship with him, which resulted in them getting the order for my GF's next car (A4 cab) as well as my order for an R8, which I placed in June last year. I squeezed his balls on the price for the S4, made sure he made no money on the finance either, but have since put more orders his way, and will continue to do so. For him, that was enough... maybe its the same for LR too. Don't take this one deal as indicative of the current market. It'd better bloody not be! [/quote] |
