Nokia N95

After almost 100 years using my trusty Nokia 6310i she has finally given up (3 keys on the key pad no longer work). The pain of being parted from this old and trusted friend is very great. Made much worse by the fact I have gone from the stone age to the space age by getting a free N95 from my network (02). How on earth does this thing work ?

Keys way too small (I have big thumbs) !

Fiddly controls !

Battery goes flat in a few hours use !

Spend hours navigating seemingly endless menus !

Apart from struggling to actualy ring anyone, I cant get anything else to work (camera, GPS, music thingy, radio) !

Headset is way too short and lop sided and 2 ear plugs. OK if listening to music, but rubbish for just making a call (if I could) !

Bluetooth in RRS works erratically with the phone and no way to load up phone book !

Is there any idiots guide to making this thing work. Any hints or tips would be very gratefully received as I am already surfing ebay for a decent second hand 6310i. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Speak to MDP who has one and will be able to solve your phone book troubles. His N95 worked on my phone book at the last meet. Thumbs Up

Alternatively the answer is in here somewhere. TDV6 - gone

Yes, MDP had to do some sort of change to his N95 to get it to work properly in his Audi - which has since been shown to work in RRSs. Just shows that mobiles have become too complicated for their own good.

Ok - Read the link/post = answers the phonebook issue

As for GPS = rubbish most of the time as takes ages to get a fix on your position. However, if you'd bought the new N95i 8GB black version ............. the GPS is now sorted and quoted by Nokia to lock onto satelites for a position in less then 3 secs.

The camera is awsome - still one of the best camera phones on the market. Only upstaged now by nokia's own N82 which comes with a xenon flash.

My N95 is over 12 months old now and due to the cost of upgrading with o2 for the 8gb version ... [ they only have 18mth contracts ] and its not free..... I will be keeping this one a little longer.

If only the iphone had better phone capabilities and camera. I mean a poxy 2mp camera = crap! & No wifi and its web browser is from 1982 Rolling with laughter It still looks nice though Confused

I have a 8Gb Black N95 and the GPS does not lock on in 3 secs. It takes much longer. At least a minute in normal conditions in my experience.

Best thing I have found is the push-email that I get with vodafone. It makes it like a Blackberry.

The music interface is also good and I find myself using it instead of my Ipod at the gym now.

It's really growing on me.

Guess I must be a complete technophobe, but I can't work out how to do anything on this phone.

Got a bit lost in thick cloud on Ullscarf in The Lakes on Sunday - thinks I'll try the GPS to get a grid reference. Ended up just getting a picture of the globe and after 10 minutes the wretched thing showed me that i was in the NW of England ! Thank Censored I thought, haven't strayed too far off my chosen route then !

As for the MP3 thingy - how on earth do you connect to my record player ?

Or software upgrades - how on earth do you connect to the computer ?

I thought all my problems had been solved today when a client / friend gave me his old 6310i (which has had a far easier and shorter paper round than my bust version). But it has an Orange sign on the front (I am on 02) and when I put a sim in and turn on it says "Phone Restricted" and wants me to "Enter Restriction Code". Any idea what that means ...? RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

it means the phone is locked to orange and you can not use it with your O2 sim card..........unless you get it unlocked, normally done by the mobile phone stalls at the local market for about £10 Thumbs Up

Though you might be able to find the code for free on the internet

search for a program called "my phone explorer", you will need a cable though (possible that bluetooth would work if you have a bluetooth enabled computer) and then i beleive you should be able to copy phonebook, sms messages to the new phone
