But how’s it all going to work out with all the tie up with Ford developed systems & technology etc ??

Aren’t an awful lot of the electronics, diagnostics, switches / buttons & some engine parts all provided by Ford to LR & Jag ???

How can Tata continue to develop these systems, when they are all based on Ford technology ???

I imagine that the buyer will also sign a bunch of iron-clad supply agreements (for parts, engines, technology) with Ford valid for the next several years. Ford may even end up keeping a minority stake in LR/Jag for a while, who knows. It must be quite a complex sale regardless of buyer, that's for sure.

I hear they will be dropping the names of the LR range. Instead they will be known as nr's 34, 45, 62 and 98. You also will be able to drive the car out of the showroom without paying! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

So…………...

If Tata do end up owning LR, as it now seems, in all honesty how will you all feel about buying & driving a new Land Rover under their ownership ???

I know that I’d be lying if I said I’d have no reservations about buying a new LR next year, as I’m thinking of doing !!!

I can’t help but feel that would reduce the brand value of Land Rover somewhat & perhaps make a bit of a joke out of it. I know for sure, around these parts LR owners could be in for some serious ridicule !

So I wonder how much will it play on others minds ???

Rupert,

Absolutely no concern from me - I suppose those who purchase the RRS as a label/badge may feel TATA ownership would cheapen their image, however for me this doesn't apply.

Wasn't Ford a joke? Wink

And what makes you think the steel used in your current RRS is not Tata/Indian supplied/made? Smile

Ford will keep a relatively substantial shareholding. TaTa need the Euro compliant small Ford engines as a trade-off until they develop their own or more likely buy a certain other manufacturer of the required motive power.
Luckily, LR and Jag are not deemed to make their own engines.

That, according to Rupert, the Irish will ridicule an Indian Range Rover sounds like a line from "Father Ted" !! His "iconic" Guiness is brewed in 51 countries worldwide; I expect the TaTa workers enjoy a pint of their own locally brewed "black stuff" when they go off shift in downtown Jamshedpur!

It's not my iconic Guinness at all Rolling Eyes

It's not a case of the Irish will ridicule Land Rover, as LR are very popular here in Ireland. But as it is there is quite an amount of looking down the nose at Land Rover from the BMW & Merc set here & the if TATA do end up owning LR, it will just give "them" even more ammunition.

Unfortunately Ireland has become very brand aware, actually bordering on "Brand Snobbery", so this will open the floodgates of abuse, that I already suffer for having owned Land Rovers for many years.

In Ireland the BMW X5 is the bee all & end all of the SUV market & seen as the only one to own. You’re nobody until you own an X5. That was until the RRS took over & for a while started to take the crown from the BMW, but with the new X5 model the trend has swung back to BMW again.

Some years ago, there was a TATA jeep of some description on sale here & it was treated like a total joke. I just don’t want to have my beloved Land Rover brand tarred with the same brush.

But how many of them will actually know that it is being owned by Tata ?

None of those that are brand aware just to be somebody actually knows that LR is being owned by Ford, same goes for other brands.
With a lot of "superior" brands you have no clue where they are build or by who they are owned, only true passionate owners will know and the general public doesn't care.

Has Rols Royce lost it's glamour because it's sold to BMW or Bentley and Lamborghini sold to VW, no, they still are still in the top range of luxury cars.

Hey, even a Ferrari is only a Fiat Razz Wink

You can see the same thing happening with other kind of products like Plasma screen where there are only 5 brands actually making screens, all the rest uses them as OEM parts for their branding.
So the guy showing off with his B&O or Loëwe screen is actually using Samsung or LG OEM pieces Wink

We'll see this happening more and more, so I wouldn't worry about it, at the end we bought this car because we like it not to show of to other, at least I hope so otherwise there are very sad people around. Well said, Phantom. Unfortunately, many owners - at least here in the US - got into high end Land Rovers solely for snob appeal, e.g. my neighbor doesn't own one, and they couldn't care less about the actual car, its legacy, or the capabilities of the brand. I guess it goes with the territory when you manufacture a high ticket item. On rr.net (the FFRR forum in particular I have to say, very little of that attitude on the RRS forum) it is really shameful - to say the least - to read how many people are preparing to defect to other brands if the Indian money takes control of Land Rover.
