HELP! Petrol cap is locked... and Im out of petrol!

Well.. not me, but the missus just called from a petrol station and she cant open the petrol cap. Tried locking, unlocking from the keyfob several times...

Ive also gone through the whole "now you are looking at the 'petrol' cap arent you?" style conversation. Bit of an arse as its almost out of fuel and not good if it runs out.

Is this going to be one of those 'how stupid can you get' moments (as in, theres a button somewhere for it) or is it an LR design feature to cut down on emissions? Just Picked up: 2006 RRS S/C, java with Ivory.

There is a plasticky thing on the end of the arm protuding from the petrol flap. If that falls off (and it can), and if you push the petrol flap in, the flap can jam. This happened to me and the flap was not flush with the car but pushed in. If that is the case, take the car and drive it over some bumps and it popped free for me.

You got enough fuel for a trip over to LR in San Pedro? It should be a v quick fix. 2022 P440e AB

Hmmm, got the missus driving it at the moment and she would have had to go over some bumps to get there in the first place so would imagine that would free it, but hasnt.

Looked on some general forums and theres a few threads about an entrance in the boot and a cord to pull incase the mechanism is fooked... is there anything like that on the RRS? Just Picked up: 2006 RRS S/C, java with Ivory.

Oh, and nope, the cars in Fuengi at the moment so with the way that beast eats the fuel she'd start coughing by Calahonda.

The closest is Malaga, and thats the same distance.. pretty Censored really. Really hope theres a fix there somewhere (otherwise its a crowbar jobbie) Just Picked up: 2006 RRS S/C, java with Ivory.

I think there is an emergency release for the filler flap - details will be in the user guide (which hopefully is in the car for Mrs T to read). However, there is a technote in GTR about filler flaps that won't open (it's ref: LS501-021 fyi). If there is a danger that the car will run out of fuel because of this, you could call out LR Assist?

Thanks shmoogle, I'll have a look but wont get to see it until I get back tonight. I'll ask the missus to have a look (although its in Spanish). Is there anywhere online to download the owners manual?

Oh and LR Assist in Spain? Think its called 'LR Assist Manana' over here (for those that dont know, thats means 'tomorrow'.. as in, they'll never arrive, or find the house cause its not got a street name, or postcode, or number...) Just Picked up: 2006 RRS S/C, java with Ivory.

Nothing in the user manual about it. Just unlock all the doors and press the flap in to open. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Don't go into the View Technical Info section, that is subscription based but if you choose RRS and Owners Handbooks from the left hand selection panels then click Continue it will show you a list of all the handbooks. I'll have a look and see what I can find for you... Rolling Eyes

If that doesn't work then I presume there's a physical reason why the flap isn't opening. As I say, there's a service bulletin about this happening so will need to be left for the dealer to sort out Crying or Very sad

One last thought (although a bit from the bottom of the barrel) - the fuse for the fuel flap actuator could have blown? That would obviously render the fuel flap dead.... it's fuse number 50 in the fuse box for when you get your hands back on the car.

Good luck with it - let us know what happens Thumbs Up
