Having tints on front windows is infringing the Type approval regs and if a dealer has cars on the forecourt that are for sale with the tinting on them he is selling a vehicle that is illegal as it doesn't comply with the construction regs - I think that is how they get round that one VA. The thing that worries me is that if somebody who is driving round with heavily tinted front side windows hit's your car then they are actually driving uninsured................... so would you loose your no claims because they have hit you? Another good reason for driving round in day time with dipped headlights on all the time...................

I think Josh is on the right lines and the journalist has got a bit carried away. The law was changed following a fatal motorcycle accident where HEAVILY tinted windows were deemed to blame. The law recognises the difference between 'light window tints' (30%+ light transmission)and 'excessive' window tints... If you are stopped for having light tints you will be dealt with by having to remove the tint, usually within 10 days. Excessive tints, at worst will be prosecuted.. These guidelines have been agreed and recommended by the gov.

Not quite Tim, in these circumstances the driver may not be covered by his policy but the insurance company still has to honour 3rd party claims. HSE TD6 (Java Black/Ivory) 911GT3 (Guards Red, carbon interior) ElanSE (BRG) Panamera Turbo S Boxster S |

You'd think they'd make it part of the MOT... but I suppose the light measurement equipment, training and whatever else would be required isn't worth the outlay given the large majority of cars don't have tinted windows. If I'm not mistaken, you're still allowed tinted windows - it's just you're not allowed to have them excessively tinted (i.e. over 70%). The factory tints therefore will still be perfectly legal....

Personally I despise coppers when they're on duty. I'd say of the majority that I've met when they're on duty they're wa ers.

They only do it because of the way the government needs to collect lots of crime figures................ because we, the electorate, demand that they justify the cost to the Exchequer of the police. To get improved crime figures the police have to concentrate on the silly things as they produce the least paperwork. While having heavy tints on your front side windows might seem trivial to most, the folks are still criminals (ie they are breaking the law about tinted glass in the front windows of cars!), it's just that the police don't need to waste their time following up the crime, they just issue a compliance order and put it down in the statistics as a solved crime. I'm afraid that this is the state that WE, the electorate, have demanded of the police and government 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
