Can't see to well from the picture, but that looks to me as if you have it routed wrong around 8 and 9. The Alternator belt goes around 6,7,8 and 9. are you also sure they haven't given you the Air Con, P/S belt etc. instead as that would certainly be longer, although I don't know by how much.

The photos aren't great sorry, i know what you mean but there's 2 on mine, a long and short one. This is the short one. It's the 3.6 tdv8. |

The illustration I posted is for the TDV8 and shows the routing for both belts. Alternator belt highlighted in red.

The belt should be PQS500460 or equivalent brand i.e. Dayco, Gates etc. 6 rib 1360/1362 mm long.

Ok This is the one I got at the local place I also think but not 100% sure that the reason it snapped is because the ace pulley is loose and i think sitting squint therefore it wasn't running true/ straight and got "cut" |

Then I would suggest unless some pulley/idler etc. is actually missing which seems unlikely, then you have routed it wrong. Alternatively run a piece of string around the pulley's the route you think it should take and measure the length, that should give you a rough idea how long the belt should be.

Looking at the Gates number it would appear to be the right one.
